EDgun or FX

So I would say they are both great guns, you can't go wrong, however the five big differences which leap out in my eyes are modularity/adjustability (ease of adjustability), ruggedness, magazine size, after-market parts availability, and shot count.

Ultimately a lot if it simply will come down to personal preference. I know someone will say "why not both," but assuming you can't have both that is what I'd use to differentiate them enough to pick one.

I hope that helps. :D

Melvyn,

I too was in the same situation. I now have both of them in .25 cal. In my case, I purchased the FX Impact X 700 first. It's a great gun, accurate as heck, a lot of fun to shoot, but I kept going back and looking at the Matador. A few months past and I couldn't take it any longer and added the R5M Standard. to the herd and have not questioned my decision. I still shoot both regularly, but if I could only own one gun it would be the R5M due to its simplistic design, accuracy, and absolute ease of maintenance. If you like to tinker and tune to the peak of performance, the FX is the way to go, even though from a good dealer it should be close out of the box. If you want a smaller grab and go gun, that's tough as nails, accurate and gorgeous to the eyes, the R5M will fit the bill. Good luck on the decision!

I have one FX rifle. It's a wildcat first generation in 25 caliber. I also have two Edguns. One is a R5 super long in 30 caliber in the other one is a leshiy and I have a .177 .22 and .25 barrel for it. I love the wild cat but I love the Ed guns more. Easier to work on they shoot harder and get a better shot count out of the box. Except for the last she it's got an awful small air tube on it

I don't have an FX, although I was looking to buy one. I instead bought the Edgun, but I bought a R3M long in .25, new old stock. It shoots .25 25.4 kings at 915 for about 60 shots. It's accurate, easy as heck to work on, a breeze to carry in the woods and all of the parts are metal/aluminum/wood. The gun is crazy accurate, however, the trigger is not the best. I've got mine to where it's decent, but from what I've heard, it's way behind the FX as far as trigger goes. From what I know now, I think that I would purchase the R5M or save for a RAW. The bullpup is OK, that's why I bought the long, it looks less weird. I doubt you'll make a wrong decision, either one would be awesome. Also, the Edgun is fairly easy to hand pump, and while I do have a Shoebox F10, it's faster and easier to hand pump for me - right now anyways.

He asked about Impact not Wildcat. There is a big difference. Impact is more powerful and has a better shot count. Shot both, after about 50 shots with R5M in. 25 my hand starts to hurt, cocking is hard and unpleasant. About accuracy, check Extreme Benchrest results, no Edgun there. Theyre built like a tank, everything else is inferior to Impact.

edgun for durability, simplicity.

+1

I agree. The new Edguns are amazing and reliable. Reliability is not one of FXs strong points. Both shoot well but the Edgun I feel is more capable out of the box even with an impact having all the adjustments that can be done. Also Edguns are not near as pellet picky. At least mine are not. The impact is a different story.

The Impact is definitely a more refined gun, pushing the envelope of what's possible with air guns. There are a lot of O-rings that can fail but if you're competent, you can change them yourself. FX has the edge in almost every category except for durability... What does that even mean??? That really means nothing to me because I'm not going to run my gun over with a truck. If you take care of your equipment and use it in a normal manner, the FX is just as durable as the Edgun. If you want to drive a truck over it, maybe go with the Matador. Just joking everyone... I know what durability means!!! I would like to own a Matador they look nice but my Impact MKII does everything I could ask for. It is so accurate, has a super trigger, is light, quiet, gets between 85-90 shots per fill, is very powerful... 925fps with the JSB 33.95 MKII's. and looks good. Mine is off the chain too! LOL If you like to customize your guns, the Impact is a lot more modular too. Good luck with your decision.

Oh, one other thing about having to replace the regulator and gauges...it's true that FX has had some accuracy issues with their gauges and also regulator creep. However, there are plenty of us out here who haven't had any problems. I have an Impact MKII and have no reg. creep at all, nor are my gauges inaccurate. Haven't had issues with the Crown or Streamline either!

Both great guns, you'll be happy either way! Go with the IMPACT MKII THOUGH, you'll be much happier! LOL Stoti

extremelly different rifles.... go for the edgun if you want to shoot it right out of the box.... you dont have to adjust anything!!!.... impacts are pre-adjusted platforms.... you can shoot them good out of the box, but are made to the owner to do fine adjustments to a determinated pellet/slug.... i dont recommend impacts if you don know how to adjust it carefully....It's like a race car, it's not about driving but about understanding everything that involves a race, this adjustability has its price, susceptibility to leaks, has more seals than any other rifle, the advantage is that to make adjustments is much more simple while in other rifles you can spend hours.

melvyn - Wow, great choice! I haven't looked at Edguns in a long while and was surprised to see the addition of a forward cocking lever. Also, I really like the safety that's NOT located in the trigger guard.

How do you like the trigger pull & the forward cocking lever?

Also, that's a superb mounting job with your scope. Less than 1.75" of scope height I'm guessing?
