EDgun Matador R5M Long

Firstly I would like to admit that I am a PCP addict, not that I am a good shot but love shooting anyways.

I keep reading about different guns and came across the name Edgun.

The R5 caught my eye right away and I knew I wanted one, Super Long in .30, but no luck. Couldnt find the R5.

Then by luck I found R5M's in .22 were available from a neighboring country, then again it took me a few months to get it in my hands.

What can I say, it's a beautiful rifle, its better in the flesh than the pictures i had seen on the web.

It is so well finished, both inside and and out, that I have to say I am Highly impressed with the workmanship.

With the help of the video's posted, it was easy to open up and clean. I think this is the easiest barrel to clean amongst all the PCP's I have owned.

Taking it to the range the next day and zeroing the Aztec Emerald, it started to show it's potential after about 30/40 shots. Attached is a picture of a 10 shot group @ 50 Meters.

It doesnt seem to like the JSB 18gr but absolutely loves the 15.89 JSB and absolutely HATES the RWS Power Shot heavies.

I love this gun and now i dont regret selling my FX Crown for it :)

Two negatives, one the bolt cocking is very hard, it gets tiring after a while. Is there any way to make it easier ? Grease / Oil ?

Secondly, the trigger, though very crisp when it breaks at the second stage, is still very heavy, need to lighten the pull by half.

One more question, out of about 400 shots, thrice there was a burst/rush/blow of air on my face. every thing worked fine the next shot though? anything to worry about. it did not happen consecutively but at different stages of the shooting session.

I did not get any owners manual with the gun, I saw / read that there is supposed to be a QR card, which I believe I need to download the owners's manual, in the box but all I got was the gun, 2 magazines, a fill probe and a few O'rings.

The shop, which is an authorized dealer of EDgun had 5 boxes of this but none had the QR card.

Another problem or rather accident happened when i reassembled the gun after cleaning and mounting the scope. I couldn't turn on the EDMU. i pressed and prodded but to no avail and i assumed that maybe there wasn't a battery in it i tried to open it and check.... as there was no instruction manual with it, i didnt do it right and damaged the plastic screen which covers the electronics inside :( :(

I found the way to turn on the unit and scroll through the menus but the cover, which is 2 pieces of plastic, is horribly disfigured and is spoiling the looks of this BEAUTIFUL gun.

I believe the owner / manufacturer is also on this forum, Mr. EDgun ?

Sir, is it possible for me to get a new screen for my gun, PLEASE? I shall pay for it if you require. Secondly please also tell me how to open the cover and replace the battery when it runs out, also if possible may I have a link to the owners manual ? I can send you the serial number and a copy of my bill. It was purchased on 17th of Nov from Alqannas, UAE.

I have all the manuals online HERE:

https://www.edgunwest.com/manuals.html

Refer to the Lelya 2.0 for the R5M manual; they are the same gun regarding operation and parts. The EDMU has a protective film on the inside of the cover; you can peel it off if it has become disfigured

As for shooting 18's, it will shoot them very well; you need to find a head size that fits the barrel well. I suspect based on the fact that you state the 15.89 shoots well is that the, 22 JSB you are shooting have a head size that is too large:

Refer to Phil's video for more information:

I didnt know this and i must have done this 3 or 4 times ? could i have damaged anything ?

That is a mighty fine group for 50 yards!!!

You said you needed some help with the trigger on the R5M … go to the top of the page and click the 4 red bars on the left hand side of the screen and it will uncover the search option. Type in "R5 Matador trigger help?" and that is the best discussion of how to adjust the R5M trigger on this forum. The maker of the gun ( Mr Ed himself ) came on in that discussion and drew diagrams and wrote out exactly how to adjust the trigger the way you want it to be. Hope this helps.

In regards to the breech air puff... try placing a spare breech seal ORing on the pellet probe. Slide it all the way back so it is behind the magazine.

I know this sounds odd, but it is important to eliminate any play in the probe lock. An easy way to do it is as I described. When you push the cocking levers forward, just before the lock engages you will get slight contact between this ORing and the back of the magazine as the pellet probe has a very convenient shoulder that the ORing will bottom out against. All clearance is then removed from the lock and the lock is perfect.

make sure you are pushing the cocking lever forward till it locks.
