Edgun Leshiy Final Impressions

Edgun Leshiy Impressions

Pro:

  • Sound. This gun sounds manly when fired (at least with the tune I had). It has a much lower pitch than most air rifles that I really enjoyed.

  • Fit. Each part was solid and fit perfectly. The gun worked mechanically like a fine watch. The finish wasn’t quite as nice, but that is ok, too. If the finish was too nice, I’d be afraid to use the gun and ruin the finish. I always lay my father’s Air Arms down like a baby into a crib. The Leshiy’s finish is nice without having to worry.

  • Easy to tune. I loved being able to quickly change calibers, adjust hammer spring tension, and adjust the regulator. This is a great gun to learn the basics of air rifle tuning on.

  • Small and lightweight. Even when the gun is not folded up, it has a small footprint. It is easy to pack around.

Con:

  • Trigger: I’m officially a trigger snob, but I hate the trigger as it comes from the factory. The spring plunger trigger mod makes the trigger useable but is still a weakness on the rifle.

  • Springer like: Both the cocking action and the recoil remind me of shooting a springer. The gun is so light that the recoil makes precision difficult as the gun has a tendency to jump. I tuned mine down and was able to get good groups out to 30 yards with it, but I never did get used to or like the cocking and loading action.

  • Top Heavy: The balance of the rifle is thrown off even with light scopes mounted to the top. I suppose this is a trade-off for the small size. Carrying the rifle on my side with the barrel pointed down felt odd because the scope would shift the muzzle back at an odd angle.

  • Hard to get a good sight picture. A scope has to be mounted very high to make getting a good sight picture comfortable. I also found that the scope needed to be mounted far enough back to prevent me from having to jut my neck forward to get a good sight picture. This caused the scope to stick out a ways when the gun was folded in half.

  • Uncomfortable butt stock. The bottom third of the butt stock was the only part that would have contact with my shoulder. I needed the stock to be lowered an inch or two to be more comfortable.

Other Observations:

  • Fill Probe: Although I am not a fan of probes, this one worked surprisingly well. I liked the rotating cover over the fill hole.

  • Most users report JSB pellets as most accurate. My 250mm barrel likes H&N Hunter Extremes the Best. I can’t explain why but suspect it had to do with the slow velocity I was slinging them at.

Why I sold it:

  • I just couldn’t get used to the feel of the gun. Like other Bullpup style rifles I’ve tried, this gun just didn’t fit me.

I can't say enough good things about my leshiy it's not a rifle so the scope or the size don't bother me as for the Quality and craftsmanship I think it is probably top three ever made. The most powerful compact small gun I have ever shot I also can get half inch groups at 60 yards I own a lot of other high-end airguns that can't even do that. But everyone is different that's what makes this world go around from what I read it is mostly a thumbs-up from all users who has purchased or shot one personally I love mine it is my go to gun in a hurry. Well mike all I had to do was crank up the power and the 250mm loves JSB 18.1gr pellets. I have it at 615 fps and I'm getting almost 50 shots on a fill with the reg set at about 118. That 12 ft/lb Huma regulator was a surprise, I almost called you and accused you of forgetting the plenum! LOL!

One thing I did was buy an extended baffle from DonnyFL. What a disappointment. Very very little difference in loudness to my ear. I installed the long barrel and have it tuned at 670 fps with the 18.1gr JSB's and it shoots ragged one hole all day long. And it's quieter than the 250mm with the extended baffle!

Loving this little gun. What a great day on my little 20 meter backyard range.

One happy leshiy owner here. Over any of my airguns, I prefer taking leshiy with me to range time after time. I have 350mm .25cal barrel with DonnyFL extended shroud also. I'm sending 31gr .2495" sized bullets around 760fps and it shoots 1MOA to 100 meters (109 yards). With this power level (around 40ft/lb) extended shroud really quiets the gun down.

Few months ago I shot constantly sub-MOA groups to 100 meters with 36gr ratsniperslug skirted spitzers, but ran out of slugs to test them further to 200 meters.

Overall I think this is very accurate gun considering it has only 350mm barrel. It is very hold sensitive and I personally had to spent several days at range until I learned to hold the gun correctly.

That's great! I'm surprised that it is quieter with the long barrel only because the longer barrel passes a lot of the baffles in the moderator. Looks like you upgraded to a nicer scope!

In short, if pressure is kept same, longer barrel will lower the pressure of released air, so the muzzle report is quieter. Not so much, but it's there. And actually longer barrel in leshiy does not pass any baffles, as the longer barrel is installed with "extender inner tube". (As seen here: https://utahairguns.com/edgun-leshiy-barrel-kit/)

Very good looking leshiy and excellent scope choice! When I finish my other builds, I think I need to update mine to Gen2 2-10x32.

If you have .25 barrel, I highly recommend to test H&N Grizzly pellets/bullets. They seem to work very well. There is some inconsistency with diameter when shooting straight from the tin, but pushing them through sizer will solve most of it. So far best slugs are ratsniper slugs 31 and 36gr spitzer skirted HP's. Still waiting my next batch to arrive!

I'll chime in, but I will admit my trigger time is limited. I wound up buying one in .25 after another gent talked me out of a different rifle he was selling and would not stop praising the Leshiy he had bought (NOT a recommended sales technique). My initial thoughts were positive in regards to construction, quality and how it fit me, but as shipped it was a bit noisy for the neighborhood I live in. I got one of the DonnyFL extensions, but didn't care for the increase in length and now it's sitting on the bench homeless. I appreciate short rifles! To quiet it down, I decided to play with the adjuster and turned it down to the point it was dead quiet, then I ran it across the Chrony. I was a bit too slow, at just under 500fps, I slowly adjusted until I was pushing the 25gr. JSB Kings at 594fps and that velocity was solid +/- 1fps. After dispatching one rabbit solidly at home, I managed to get to the range to see what it could do for accuracy. At 25yds, I could cut a ragged hole, when I pushed it out to 50yds, at this low velocity it dropped about 5" or so, but wound up on the intersection of the third hash line in the little Vortex Strike Eagle. Group after group, I could keep my shots under a nickel. I love this thing! As long as you don't plan on the Leshiy to make all of your other air rifles obsolete, you will find it so user friendly and versatile that you won't want to part with it. For me, I will keep it as compact as possible to take advantage of that quality and have other rifles suited for more specialized tasks. Here is my Smurf.

It's one of the most versatile airguns ever made indeed, the ease of changing calibers and barrels are a big big plus and the platform can produce over 80ft/lbs with 350mm long 9mm barrel (regulator at 150bar, hammer pre-tension maxed out and 81gr JSB leaves the barrel at 700fps). And yes, it is LOUD and has moderate recoil, but you only get 2-3 good shots out of it :)
