My experience is the first stage of adjustment screw effects the second-stage pull. The longer the first stage travel the lighter the second stage pull up to a point. Do you want a shorter first stage you have to live with a heavier second stage. You can loosen the compression spring behind the trigger somewhat but below a certain weight the gun will fail to cock with a gun pointed vertically down because you must lift the weight of the rod as well as moving the mechanism. Yes loosening the compression spring lessons the tension on the sear so you should treat the gun accordingly. I suspect vertical impacts on the gun and transfer the momentum of the trigger bar and released this sear! I try not to have a round chambered unless I'm pointed in a safe direction and in the few cases I can't follow that rule I activate the safety which blocks the sear. I managed to get the trigger pull down to about 1.8 lbs no creep and no over travel.
