EdGun EDMU Gauge

Well I’ve gone and done it now. Had to change the battery and one of the wires broke at the solder point. Anyone know if this can be repaired and by whom?

I certainly don’t think my hands are that steady. 🤣

I might just give it a go. What is the best method to trim the wire without citing the metal inside?

Thank you to all those who responded. Got to love AGN and all the amazing members!

Use a wire stripper like the one shown in Ken's photo (red grips on left). You can probably find something similar at your neighborhood hardware store. What you won't likely find at your neighborhood hardware is good soldering iron and 60/40 solder as shown in his photo. Not enough heat, improper cleaning, etc., and your solder won't wet properly. Too much heat and you'll damage the board. I recommend taking Ken or STO up on their offer to fix it.

Some good advice so far. Google Soldering 101 and you'll get some good instructionals.

Don't get a Walmart soldering iron if are picking one up. Spend $30-40 and get a decent 30-40 Watt Weller. A good soldering will make any job easier.

For snipping those wires, depending on the insulation, you might be able to just use your fingernail. I find a nail clipper is another decent option - just clip shallow so you only cut the insulation.

Using a cigarette lighter for these tasks may work, but it's very dirty butane gas and leaves soot marks.
