ED-GUN R-5M .22 CALIBER , tuning for heavy ammo ,

OK got gun and adjusted stock regulator to 145 bar and I got 44 FPE , I am trying to shoot NOE 30 gr and MP 36 grain Slugs , So not enough power for these yet

I got a HUMA Regulator in mail today and installed it . I set it to 140 bar first , and I checked speeds or 3 tyoes of ammo , I chronographed the NOE 30 gr , the MP slug 36 gr and JSB 33.95 gr .,I sized a few to start to see groups , here is what I found so far

MP slug 36grains 820 fps and 55 FPE , NOE 30 grain 900 FPS 55 fpe , JSB 33.95 grain pellet 855fps 54FPE

I sized first group to .216 first grouped horrible at 75 yards with NOE and MP slugs like 4 to 5 inch group

I then resized NOE slugs to .217 and they shot 905 fps and I shot a group of JSB 33.95 grain pellets at 855 FPS and groups were 1.2 and 1.4 inches , the ran out of daylight to be continued , maybe raise reg to 145 or 150 and try .21755 hmmm

LOU

notice between both targets , the difference is .001 in diameter proper size means so much for slugs , I did think the .216 would shoot ok as I pushehed them threw rifling and I did see it marking up slugs , I guess not enough to spin properly hmm

OK I spoke to HUMA and he said the design on the EDGUN can be set to 150 to 155 bar is max I am having a coffee and then I will remove regulator and set at 155 and see what we got , Stay TUNED LOU ,

I also spoke to Brian at edgun West and he said gun is same gun as the .25 caliber so it can handle power , , so I am going to test them today in .217 and some unsized

I have a .25 Huma in a .22 for the larger plenum area the reg max's out at 170 bar if I remember this is in a Hatsan BT65 .22 cal , there is a relationship between weight BC and twist rate if you can push them at xxx fps but cant spin them fast enough for stabilisation for that xxx you loose .

This is the same in centre fire rifles 55 grn Vmax , Hornady BT 55 grn , 52 SMK all super accurate at 3600 fps ish with a 1/14 twist barrel , then 53 grn Amax or Vmax much better BC if I remember right you need a faster twist for same fps , more revolutions for stability at same speed .

HI I had a great day shooting I set regulator to 155 bar as huma recommended , and I adjusted hammer spring to max with chronograph then backed off 10 fps just so it was not totally maxed , Ok here is my results

MP 36 gr slug 870 fps 61f pe unsized unsorted

NOE 30 gr 920fps 58 fpe unsized unsorted

JSB 33.95 gr 61FPE unsorted

I have a few targets to show and explain , I also started gathering data for my BC with this gun . I will recheck again , I did notice something as well ,which I will re do gain and see if it was coincident or reality ,ok here is targets

THIS IS AN INTERESTING TARGET IT WAS SHOT WITH THE MP SLUGS IF YOU LOOK CLOSER i ALSO ADDED A CLOSE UP YOU WILL SEE 5 SHOTS BACK AND FORTH PATTERN , i USED 2 TYPES OF AMMO BOTH GROUPS HAVE 6 SHOTS EACH , THE GROUP PARAELL TO THE BULLSEYE WAS UNSORTED AMMO , THE 6 SHOT GROUP ABOVE IT IS SAME AMMO SORTED TO .1 TENTH OF A GRAIN AND ALSO SORTED BY EYE SO THE CREME OF THE CROP , i WILL RE DO EXACT THING AND IF THE SORTED AMMO AGAIN IS THIS TIGHT i WILL SORT EVERY SLUG FOR THIS GUN .

OK WELL TODAY IS DAY 2 WITH GUN . I DECIDED TO LEAVE TUNE THIS WAY , GET A BUNCH OF SLUGS SORT AND THIS WILL BE 2019 SLUG HUNTER .P/S i DECIDED TO ZERO SCOPE FOR 50 YARDS WITH SMIDTH AND BEINDER PM 2 , i DECIDED TO LEAVE SCOPE ON IT AND USE IT FOR NOW .

THIS GUN IS A SWEET .22 SLUG WHICH CAN SHOOT 36 GRAIN SLUGS AT 61FPE

Great! Info! I just got the same gun and plan on shoot slug also. I've been messing with bullet stability calculators for my R5M. It appears that around 28 grains or .4" in length , the slug will become a only marginal stable in flight with this twist rate. I'm going to be focusing on medium weight slugs. I'll post my results on this thread. Thanks!

Hey Glem once i cranked it up to 61fpe everything stabilized , I am going to keep it tuned here as I got guns for pellets , Yes I noticed everyone is out of Molds in small bores , Hey glem I really like Accurate brand molds but he only makes them down to .280 I bet if enough of us inquire he will make them for .22

he is one I got my 52 grain one for my R5 30 caliber which is deadly out to 300yd ,

the thing about accurate molds you can design one or lighten or make one heavier or change sizes out to .0005 so it can be tailored for a gun , please inquire all of you guys , I had him make me 3 , 30 caliber molds but I really want him to make 22 and 25 come on guys ask him with me please LOU

or if u shoot 280 and up get his as you will love it machine work and constantcy from cavity to cavity are spot on , I even had him make me a dual bullet mold in 1 casting ,he is awesome and fast under 2 weeks evn if special order i see other companies out of stock for months
