EBR Target Challenge

Hi CC, all it would take for me to attend EBR is for the 50y BR match to be run like a real match instead of a Mickey Mouse match. That’s it. Bench draws, bench rotation, relays, standard scoring and protest , etc. The proper format has been laid out, tested, and in existence for a very long time. 

They should also do the same for the 100y. The problem is that they lack the time to do anything right.

Excess gun noise ruled as a "disturbance"?

High-powered/larger-caliber airguns can be loud. We could either recommend ear protection for any/all competitors or... require moderators?... or maybe a DB limit on any guns used to compete?

The more rules the better I always say.

Ah-ha, some gun drama, sorry if I caused any of this angst somehow!

Centercut/Mike B, I have mad respect for anyone that shoots well and am not beyond telling all you guys that, you of course are one of them, and MIke N as well (although I wouldn't call it a man crush), lol, and also Bobby - a guy I have tremendous respect for(I mean he's got such nice hair how could anyone not have a man crush on him), JK LOL! Heck I really was impressed with Robert B at TBR, that guy can shoot great! The list goes on and on, so many more/other competitors as well, no matter the brand of gun. Credit where credit is do. 

Sometimes people butt heads, that's beyond my control, it doesn't change how I feel about either of the two of you. I've pretty much voiced how I feel about the various shooting disciplines and as you know I'm a "go with the flow" person. Whatever the rules are that's what I'm going to follow. I might not have explained everything to Mike N correctly concerning the TBR. As it was I didn't shoot well at the 50Y event so it didn't bother me too much that I didn't qualify. Of course a guy wishes different but it is what it is, right?! I kind of let the ole HPX down but tried my best.

I'd like to mention that I certainly didn't/don't expect events to run perfectly, especially when someone has tried to do their best to run things smoothly like you did at TBR Mike B, and for the first time running a match for that matter. YES I would call the TBR a great success, I think you did a great job Mike, and am so glad I went! BTW I went to TBR to hang out with you and Bobby, meet new friends, and have fun shooting AG's, so mission accomplished! It's fun to win but that's only part of why I do this stuff. I like it when friends win and see the victory in their faces! Just think how much 2020 would have sucked without us having the TBR, seriously! Thanks a lot Centercut doing this event!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep it was rough/very noisy, shooting the HPX under the porch, we "adapted" by using earplugs later on as we went onto other events in the match, kind of a learn as you go thing. Still pretty loud otherwise anyway but you were very thoughtful and brought ear plugs for the others. I had to wear ear plugs and I was right behind the rifle. For those that don't know - the Thomas HPX has a large and effective muzzle brake on it which makes it sound louder than it would sound like with no brake on at all. BUT that being said the HPX is an amazing rifle that doesn't move in the bags hardly at all, and I was privileged to be able to borrow it, so thanks a bunch to Mike N. 

For my sake I'd appreciate it if both of you would refrain from > calling out - which always brings a negative counter response, or below the belt coarse jesting, and the various insults. I hate to see it because I like you both so much! I think if you were to discuss this stuff in person you both would see each other in a different light.

We never claimed this to be a top notch competition. It was a substitute for the many canceled and more professional events.

Why send your HPX there if it was so bottom of the barrel? 

Why not create your own event with your own targets and rules that your happy with? You’ve produced a gun to compete.

Just someone please figure out how EBR can be won by a tommy gun shooter so all this pointless, endless, "EBR isn't fair" nonsense can be gone. But I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

And I would have been at TBR but the Continuum I've had ordered forever, still hasn't arrived. I hope it gets here in time for EBR 2021.

Just out of curiosity, how does that Muller barrel shoot the 25.4 Monster RD’s?

Somebody else just asked me that. I don’t know. I have not tried them. Next time I get to shoot I’ll try to remember.

Take a look at this chart. This is a Rimfire wind rose, but it is pretty close to what I’m seeing with slugs.


I’m shooting free recoil from a front rest and rear bag. I touch nothing but the trigger and trigger guard.

Hey Mike N. Happy belated Thanksgiving.

Can you explain ( clearly ) how to use/interpret this wind rose? My assumption is that depending on the wind direction on the wind rose, ( let's use the number "1" in this example), does this correspond to the number '1' inside the circle? And, is this generally where the pellet will land inside the circle ( bull? ) ? I realize this is heavily dependent on wind speed, but I want to understand the idea/concept. 

I'm sure I have it wrong, but I'm trying to learn how to use this as a guide with 100 yard Bench Rest. Assume nothing here, and I am slow with wind reading.

You have the understanding of use correct.

The problem is that the chart is for a spin stabilized projectile from a RH twist barrel.

Pellets from a RH twist barrel will rise in a left to right and fall in a right to left.


If you mirror that chart top to bottom it will be more correct.

These charts only going to be a suggestion, really. Different barrels, power levels, pellets, and distances will yield different results. You are going to have to figure it out for your own combination.

If you want to learn the subtleties of the wind, you are best to shoot at much shorter distances where you will get proper feedback each shot. 100y is too far for that to happen with a pellet. The best you can do is make educated guesses. At 50y with a good 50 plus fpe gun and pellets you can learn about this stuff.

Had two wind flags out today at 75 and 95 yards in a 3-5 mph wind. Shot several 100 yard and 75 yard EBR 8X11 targets at my local outdoor range. Had a 206, 208 and 214 at 100y. Also had a 230 and 217 at 75Y with Safari .22 HP shooting MRDs and Knock outs.

Might move back to 50Y next week and try your suggestion.

Hi Tommy...flags that far out will not help you much. If you put a leaf blower on full blast just in front of your muzzle....you would see that it would blow your pellet way off course to 100y. If you then put the leaf blower at 99 yards in the pellet path...you would not see it move the pellet any. Once the pellet is blown off path by wind it will continue on that vector even if there is no wind at all beyond where it went off course. It’s path has changed forever.


if I were to use only 2 flags for 100y, I would place them at about 18y and about 72y. Each of the flags would then represent a zone of about half of the overall drift that will be seen at 100y. If one flag is facing right and one is facing left at the same mph velocity...the pellet will not move in windage. This is settled science...not opinion. You can research it on your own if you would like.

Great tip Mike. Funny you mentioned if one flag blows left and the other right; as it happened today several times. Did not realize that was a neutral and may not affect windage. I will remember this.

Bobby C said something similar to me about yardage/and distance flag placement and I had forgotten his advice.

I still believe I need to walk before I can run, 

Meaning.....I will drop back for a while at 50 and try and learn the flags. I think that is a good place to learn, as I believe I can digest and process the feedback more efficiently at 50;yards; depending on what the flags present.

Ok, a little late to the party but Centercut threw out the friendly challenge as I finally start to get this Impact2 shooting half way decent with slugs. 
This is my second try as the first was a disaster and I’d say 100% my fault. 
Concentrated on breathing and trigger technique and results are much better.
