EBR Target Challenge

I was kind of hoping to see a post by TommyB after we worked on his RW. Maybe he doesn't have it back yet. It's a SHOOTER . Hoping he'll do well with it.

Bob

Hey Bob

Very good shooting and a special thanks and sincerest appreciation too for the TLC on my gun! My RW Safari was shipped by AoA and should arrive today at my local UPS store. I will be trying it out next week for sure and will post some cards.

Stoti - Gotta love those RAWs, great shooting. My trigger on the HM1000 .22 is set for about 4 or 5 oz release on second stage. Very nice! Also, I have the 110lb card stock with RangeMaxx target backing. Makes for nice holes.

Now let me elaborate on the story. @arzrover says all I could muster was a 231. I was getting all dialed in in perfect conditions and wanted to shoot another card so went down range to put up new targets and come back and my rifle is now shooting out of the ring high and left. I’m like wtf, my rifle had a major shift. I starting trying to re-zero and getting really frustrated. Unbeknownst to me, while I was putting up targets someone filled my rifle for me, very generously and when he put it back in the rest he thought he would tighten the 2 screws on either side of the rest to make the rifle sit more solid. I had just finished shooting a 50 and 49 on my last 2 targets and could not repeat it after that. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. I really thought I was on track to beat my 240 it was shooting so well. We’ll never know now.

I'm so bad ...... maybe I twisted some dials while at it..... no one will ever know.....

On another note.... my last batch of targets were printed on 65# card stock and work great. Maybe that would be a little cheaper.

Finally, for those who might make it to the Arizona State Ft Championships on the third Saturday of September , it's a Saturday only match this year (rifle portion anyway ) so I'm taking my bench and there will be a couple of other benches brought, as well. We were thinking that a fun time could be all that wish to participate shoot their official EBR targets and we could post them more or less together. I'll be there on Thursday more than likely , so anyone that wants to can practice if they desire.

Bobbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I printed some on card stock tonight but still can’t get them to print the right size. My IPad doesn’t have any settings to change so the targets are a little smaller than they should be. I’ll try shooting again tomorrow in the morning. Have a good one guys.

Saw Bob’s comment on 65lb cardstock.

I know there seems to be more cardstock specialty printers ( Edson, HP, Brother, etc) that seem to print the lighter weights better without jamming. Both the 65 and 85 lb do work well and you can order on Amazon.

I print from my Lenovo Windows 10 machine vs. iPad, and can only feed one sheet at a time. Slow process, but in 10 minutes I can print about 20 cardstock EBR targets. Q. Do you have a Windows or MAC computer, as the various print size ettings normally come up so you can print 100% or actual size, which should give you the official size.

Alternatively, and If you really get stuck, you can take a run to Kinkos or Office Max and get a bulk quantity order and they will last you quite a while.

Well, we shot more cards today. Have to say, the Graham wind flags do seem to help a lot.

One interesting thing was that BlueBaby and I were shooting simultaneously and almost always, when one of us got a "flier", the other one did. Maybe not the same extreme, but usually close.

Here are my best 2. 1 to 3 mph constantly switching. Shot from bipod and rear bag.

We did plug the close ones with a pellet to see if they touched.

Hey Bob

This is fantastic shooting!

Does anyone watching this thread closely, know how good this is with an air gun? I’m not being a smart ass, let me clarify. I frequently shoot two very nice Anschutz Rimfire .22 LRs and I have shot a 236 and a 239 with the EBR Airgun BR targets. What a huge advantage I have with that rifle vs. an airgun! Often, I will shoot low to mid 230’s, but only with a RF.

To shoot these same scores with an air gun, and a 25g pellet is unimaginable. I am constantly in awe of what a good pellet gun can do at 100 yard BR! And, the shooting skill to achieve!

Long live Bench rest 100 yard shooting!

Those groups don't look that bad at all...good shooting.

I shot a few more cards today. The best was 227(3x). It was on the crappy paper with tears and the targets are a little undersized. I only took 3 good targets and used them fast. However, tonight I got on a different computer, instead of my IPad and got the cards to print the correct size and on some heavier card stock. I printed up #30! I’m hoping I have time to go shoot the RAW tomorrow morning. Although I shoot a lot, I’ve never shot these cards at 100yds before yesterday and am really loving it.

Thanks. It is definitely all about the wind! I had a card today with 3x and 2 10’s on the first target, the next two targets I shot were all over, like I was shooting a different gun. Baffling! Like I said, it’s new to me. I shot some slow, trying to wait for the wind to stop, other times, I held off and just let them rip. The rear of my Impact isn’t the most steady and doesn’t ride a bag well. I’m anxious to take the RAW tomorrow but it’s got a Athlon Ares FFP scope with a thick reticle on 27x. I much prefer the Golden Eagle on my Impact. One of these days, I’m going to get myself a Red Wolf, plop a Golden Eagle on it and never look back! Hopefully soon! Have a good one!

I only shot two cards today because it was very hot, smoky and windy. The first card was only one point better than my last card but this one felt a whole lot better. Three bad shots ruined it. The second card was not as good but again was promising at first...It showed me the effects of wind starting and stopping and taught me not to try and dial windage in the middle of the card...dumb, dumb, dumb, totally fell apart and didn’t know where I should hold. lol. The wind was 5+ and pretty gusty which made me realize yet another thing, I need to have a wind meter and good wind flags at all times.

RAW HM1000x .25, Athlon Ares BTR, Evolution Bipod, JSB 33.95 MKII shot at 925fps. Wind right to left 5+ very gusty.

Hey gang,

I got the RW Safari back from AoA this past week and had a chance to put it through its paces today at the local outdoor range.

I was the only one there today, and it was very humid but not that hot. Very slight wind at 1-2 mph, with some occasional gusts a bit higher. Conditions were good and this was my first time shooting the .22 ART HP barrel with the SST. Opened up a new tin of JSB 25 RDs and fired away. I also tried front and rear bags vs. the usual Accu-Tac front bipod and rear bag for a change. I shot first three targets with bags, and then switched back to bipod and rear bag. I need to experiment with the front and rear bags, as I am used to bipod. Can't say I did any worse or better with either approach.

Considering it was my first time with the new barrel, I was very very pleased with the results. I think Bob C said it was shooting 970 FPS on Mid power, but I did not use the FX Radar Chrono today to check. I will next outing but it didn't matter, as I know it was accurate. I had more 'X's than normal, more 10's than normal and more 9's than normal. My scores don't reflect the accuracy of the gun, as I know the ART team shot some 230+ cards and some high 220 cards.

I know for sure I did miss some wind calls, even though they were slight and you will see some of them on the 5 EBR targets I shot. At the end of the day, I shot "two" sub MOA 1" groups just to check POA and for grouping purposes; pics attached. I am confident that I can shoot better over time, but as I was a bit jazzed up and had two cups of coffee, I think that may have sped up the pace a bit more than I wanted.

No pellet sorting, sizing and no wind flags today at muzzle end or near the target. I will get some Graham wind flags in the future to help me with the wind. Will also try the Knock Outs at some point, but what a great friggin' day!

To say I am delighted and extremely happy is a massive under statement. Thanks Bob, Rob and Steve!!!

Tom
