But unfortunately most don’t plug. And most also don’t want to. And a great number don’t even know how. Plus, you’re being scored against the same caliber, so plugging changes your score bit but not relative to other shooters of the same caliber. A 230 with a .35 is not the same as a 230 with a .22. I think we all know that. Anyone that wants to start a “plugging” EBR Target Challenge please feel free to do so. It’s an open forum. I just thought this was a quick fun way to see how we do relative to one another and be easy to score. Plugging kinda makes it more like work and less like fun…

We’re also not comparing shooting conditions. Some shoot at dawn or dusk with little and consistent wind, and others shoot when they can, wind be damned.

I’ve shot a 205 that was MUCH better Marksmanship than a 233 or 234 that I shot in light consistent breeze. I’ve also shot in conditions where a 180 was a great score.

So over the internet on the AGN forum there is no real way to compare, so it’s just fun. By definition it can’t be truly competitive…

I shoot because it’s fun. Of course when I compete I want to win, who doesn’t? But unlike some I’d still compete if I didn’t think I had a good chance of winning. How else do you improve?

One thing most might not know about me is that my Main Reason for shooting competition is to make me a better shooter for Hunting. I want to do my best but if I don’t win it’s not a big deal. This isn’t my job. I’m not a Pro. I have to shoot in the Pro Class because there is no real Amateur Class once you do well in Sportsman.. I have a 50 hour per week job, and it’s not shooting nor is it Airgun related. If I had to choose between small game hunting/pesting or shooting in competition I’d drop the competition in a heartbeat. I’ve had fun competing but never as much fun as hunting ground squirrels, rabbits, rats, and nuisance birds. I shot a big fat ground squirrel yesterday at 46 yards with my .25 LCS on full auto with two buddies watching through their binoculars. Probably 5 or 6 shots in a row hit the squirrel. It was hilarious! We all laughed and high five’d for quite a while...

Here is a morning of good wind. 1-3mph. Left to right between 8 and 9 o’clock. Most holds 7-8 ring and 1-2 rings low.

Just adding a note about this morning.

The pellets I used had the most ugly, out of round, and ragged skirts I have seen so far. Al most all has a flat spot at least a 1/16 or more wide. I shot them all, and even the worst looking ones did pretty well. I had a few shots that I regarded as uncalled for...but there would have been no way of associating those to the pellet...since nearly all the pellets had obvious defects to the skirts. There was a few times that I expected a big flier based on what I saw when I loaded the pellet...but it didn’t happen. If I was the pellet sorting type...I would have thrown away most of these pellets based on their appearance.

VERY nice shooting, Mike. @ BlueBaby and I shot a LOT yesterday and struggled in the most still conditions. Not sure why yet. Tried my proven 25 and 30 barrels and both of us were worse with them than the 22. @ BlueBaby even shot her 18 ft lb Wolverine higher score than the 30. Weird day.

Bobby....I know exactly what you mean. There are very light days that the little bit of wind is very fickle. That’s very hard to figure. I remember shooting at night in Oxnard one time, and the flag tails looked like they had weights on them. Nothing ever moved...but I could not hit a 10 to save my life....and this was at 25m. I’d rather shoot in a 7-10 than that. This wind was just a gentle push that kept the flag tails out very fluidly. I used a windicator for velocity measurement today. It was certainly more accurate than me watching tail angle.

i just now realized that your avatar pic is a Honda CBR something. Very nice. I wish I was smart enough to own one of those and not constantly put my life in jeopardy. They are too much fun.

Got caught yesterday as well, thought conditions for 2nd match was better “ LESS WIND” but presented “MUCH More VERTICAL” and that lead to frustration! and poor scores. ( Is it a CBR or VFR? )

Thanks guys... It's a 2000 VFR. Nicest bike Honda ever made imho. My favorite is my 05 Hayabusa but I wish it sounded and behaved like the VFR .... engine wise... just with the same power. I guess an Aprilia RSV4 might be that... but I like my 'busa. I go fast when no one is around and there's lots of opportunities here, but I've ridden since I was 12 and prefer to keep my license and my life... so alertness and control are paramount. It IS a hoot to rail through corners and then see the whole world compress when you get on the gas......

Joe... I've been spending quite a bit of time on a 177 barrel for my RW and it's DIFFICULT compared to the 22 w Monster RDs. The wife shot a 199 w her 18 ft lb Wolverine R but I've only done a best of 208 w 16.1s so far in the RW. I'm still experimenting and will relate anything significant if it shows. The wife is really jazzed about this thread so hopefully she'll stay with it... as I work on this.

Bob, it sounds like you are deep into the sport bikes. That’s really cool. Kelly Hawe has the passion, too. You guys have probably talked over that before. He’s got some cool 2 strokes.

Thanks Bob, I’m having a lot of fun with this .177! VERY GLAD I talked to you before ordering! I think I need to speed the 16’s up some and she’ll come around, it shows tons of potential! ( YAMAHA RD 350 comes to mind! ) good buddy had the sport version?

My first bike at age 16 was a Yamaha 250 2 stroke twin. No more since then. 60s and 70s bikes I had sucked. I prefer feet under me and low bars, so yeah , sport bikes. I've chatted w Kelly numerous times and he has some sweeties. Takes impeccable care of them, just like his air rifles.

It has been extremely enjoyable shooting the 177 lately... much more pleasant than the bigger bores. At 50, doesn't seem like a disadvantage but the further out... the more difficult it gets. Good challenge anyway... trying to find the formula....

I haven’t posted one in a while. Was playing today with the JSB .217 KO slugs at 990 FPS at 100 yards in swirling 11 mph winds gusting to 13 mph. Mostly shifting from 10:30 to 1:30 every 15 to 20 seconds. Despite a BC significantly better than the RD Monsters, this was the best I could do with Bleu. I’m going to start using the wind flags I got on Mike N’s recommendation. Haven’t used them yet. Hopefully this will help with the rapid wind shifts I deal with every time I shoot.
