EBR Target Challenge at 75 yards

15F94EA0-4E03-44E1-BF8E-83FE5E0072B9.1600629895.jpeg
Shooting in AZ at Airgunners of Arizona club near Flagstaff. Had targets at 75 yards, very light winds, 1 to 2 mph maybe gust to 3. Shot the 244 above. Using official EBR targets but just shooting a single row with 5 shots per target.
.22 Daystate Bleu Wolf HP, JSB RD Monsters at 980 FPS. Shot from magazines, both Daystate and CARM.

Went out to the range this week with the RAW HM1000x .22 HP to shoot some practice NUAH ( GTA ) targets for September. Also was able to shoot a couple of 100 and 75 yard EBR target cards as well. The wind was very slight and even still at times, so it was a good day to try out the RAW. I had just cleaned the barrel thoroughly with Patchworm, so I was expecting some decent and predictable accuracy. I was shooting the JSB 25g MRDs as normal, and I think they shot pretty well. No noticeable spiraling through scope nor if I looked at pellet holes later to check. To be honest, I am not 100% sure if/when the pellets are spiraling since I have no scope cam or slow motion capability.

Here are the targets:

100 yard with Accu-tac and rear bag. I started using some white Home Depot Sign board for the backing vs. cardboard, but too expensive going forward.

75 yards, much better. Some of you guys on the thread are banging down some impressive 240+ cards and not sure I can get there yet.

This was my GTA NUAH target, which I will use for October since I already submitted my September card. Yep, you did guess it. 5th pellet did me in --- Again. I can almost count on regularly choking when I have a good group or a 'must have' shot I need. I actually was holding right center of the bull, and the other 4 shots landed in the 'X' ring.

Will be out of action for a while, and will get back to range shooting week of October 4th. Babysitting duty for Grandkids.

Thanks Jimmy, but I agree with you In that there are some really great shooters ( some are submitting their first cards ) that are posting some extremely high scores, and what’s most amazing to me is that some are just beginning their BR experience. The 9.5 Lockdown will also be fun to track!

These virtual EBR Target challenges are extremely popular, especially during the Pandemic when travel is difficult. Thanks to Mike ( CC ) and Bobby C for keeping it going.

Great Shooting Tom !

Hoping your Wolf makes it back just like you want !

Bob

Thanks Bob!

RW needs new accuator index pin assembly, trigger / safety issue needs remedy and I mucked up the battery removal. My fault, ......and Steve is on top of this. Can’t possibly say enough about AoA support, 10 out of 10 on my survey!!!! Great Dealer!

Btw - glad you guys had a bunch of fun in the last ‘ WINDY’ tournament!

Wind? What wind....??? I thought it was pretty mild. I didn’t have to hold any shots outside the paddle in the FT event. I actually missed 5 or 6 because I held off and didn’t need to. Those ..177 RD Monsters don’t drift like most .177 pellets. Shooting the 75 and 100 yards cards wind was mild but very tricky and swirling by the second...

Here's my 75 yard attempt. Shot last Fri morning at the same Mormon Lake AZ state FT match location as some of the other's posted recently (although not on the same day and about 200 yards away).

It was probably around 9am when I shot these, winds were pretty shifty- the 8s were wind direction changes that got me.

Veteran Long with JSB 18.1s at about 35fpe.

Pellets straight from the tin.

Stock gun (minus some barrel polishing and hammer tension adjusting).

No wind flags.

Bipod with rear bag/left hand adjusting for elevation.

Mike

You shot a 244 the last card you posted. Amazing, and.....great shooting at 75 yards.

Wishing I was there physically to observe how you guys do what you do.

Went to the outdoor range today, beautiful NC day...

Shot both the RAW and RW HP .22 calibers. Shot the RW this past weekend ( only one 75 yard card ); and shot several 75 and 100 yard EBR targets today. Wind was light and at the target it was a bit tricky, as it changed directions some times making my holds difficult, since I had NO flags down range. They are coming... One thing I noticed is that when I do figure out the wind call, I do get more 10's and usually I can string a few together with that same wind hold. You will see a couple of good targets on the cards, and the higher scores occurred when I figured out the hold almost exactly. Problem is that the wind changes, and then I'm back with lower ring scores and have to go back to sighter targets.

re. wind flags -- Bobby (and Mike B) told me several times to deploy some flags, and I am proving to myself, that until I get those flags installed down range at 50 and 75 yards I will continue to blow some relatively good cards without reading those flags. You can cheat a little at 75 yards without them, but at 100 yards it's a whole different story.

First up the RAW - see below. Target #'s 1, 2 & 3 are 75 yards. Target #4 is 100 yards, not good. Accuracy started dropping off OR...shooter got worse!

I must admit. The RAW ( for me) is more than holding its own against the RW Safari in HP .22 caliber at both 75 and 100 yards. The majority of my better scoring cards are with the RAW, but I think eventually the RW will start outshooting the RAW at 100 yards. I love the mechanical 2-stage trigger of the RAW at 5.5oz 2nd stage break.

Before I shot these targets, I shot a five shot 75 yard group with the RAW for the first several shots of the day. I wanted to zero at 75 and run a quick check on accuracy. ( See below ) Group was 3/8" CTC at 75 yards, so I did have a feeling the 75 yard EBR targets were going to be decent. For me, anything north of a 230 score at 75 yards is good and I would love to some day shoot a 240 card, but I am finding out you can make very few mistakes to get that high of a score....I am being a bit sarcastic of course, but since I have shot dozens and dozens of 75 yard EBR cards, I know how difficult of a challenge this is for me.

This was the Safari HP .22 the other day. Only shot one card and had a gun issue, so I had to pack it up early that day.

Awesome shooting Tom. Wish I had the patience and skill to shoot in the wind. I usually just just wait for a calm day so I don't drive myself insane with the misses! LOL

That RAW set up is sweet. Love the wide stance bipod. I'm still using the cheap Atlas clones! LOL

Been enjoying shooting grapes at 40 to 50 yds lately with the .22 pups.

Thanks Jimmy.

re. Wind reading - I got to thinking about what you said and if this is my scoring in light wind conditions, I would hate to see what the scores would look like if the wind was blowing 5-10mph, or even 15-20mph! Generally, I won’t even go if the wind gets up around 10 mph. 😂

Since I began shooting Benchrest with air rifles about 18 months ago, I have come to realize that for me personally, “there is a much higher percentage of skill vs. luck required” in achieving higher scoring and consistent cards. As an example, if I were “lucky” I would have thought by now I would have broken the 225 barrier at 100, at least a couple of times. At 75 yards, I would think by now I could have shot a 240 card.

Not so, need more practice and skill to get there, not luck. The Center fire guys I regularly see think I’m nuts with my scoring expectations and results. They’re right and I’m happy.
