EBR Target Challenge at 75 yards

The wife and I thought a 75 yard thread would be a good compliment to the 100 yard, since the qualifying at EBR is 75.

I'll kick it off with this one, shot in fairly good conditions this morning with JSB MRDs at 970. Daystate RW "Wally" with Heliboard on pl8. Caldwell Rock rest with v bag rear.

Great card Bob! Now, this is some nice shooting. 10’s are nice to look at, and you have a boat load of them here.

Is this 75 yard challenge like golf whereby you give me like six or seven strokes because of my handicap? If so, then if I move to 50 yards, I might be able edge you out with a 246. 😄 Lol.

I’ll be out this week with the Safari and will give this a go. I was actually at my range this morning and the 7 bays were all occupied at the 50/100 Sight-in range, with four more shooters ahead of me in line. So, I turned around and headed home.

All of these virtual BR challenges are a blast, so great idea here as I only shot at 75 yards once. I’ll post some cards this week.

Argue? Me? Nah..... ;)

Great shooting Bob! That would definitely qualify for the finals. Good topic. Now I need to shoot some. Was practicing 50 yards today windy conditions. Shot an entire tin of RD Monsters.

PS., I think a few of Mike’s 25 shot groups at 100 yards that fit under a quarter have proven my point about target size at 100 yards ;)

Yeah Mike N.....

I think we have come full circle on whether or not to enlarge the existing EBR targets. With a bunch of folks shooting in the mid to high 230’s it seems hard to justify a larger target for EBR 100 yard BR competition. You have been leading the way with many of these high scores and with the existing EBR targets. I’m not sure having the best EBR shooters score well into the 240’s with larger targets is enough justification to change.

It appears the AG technology is advancing such that the existing EBR target sizes seem to be adequate. Not sure if you agree or not, but the forum is here for a free exchange of opinions. We all learn as smart people weigh in.

Awesome shooting Bob, that’s the way to do it!

I don’t want to hijack your thread, but I know many of you shooting this 75yd. challenge and the100yd. EBR target challenge shoot Daystate air rifles. Since it was kind of mentioned above(HP .22), what are you guy’s thoughts on .22 vs. .25 vs. 30 in either the Daystate Red Wolf HP, Safari or Delta Wolf and why? I’ve been struggling to decide on one over the other. Ballistically, they are all so close, none clearly superior to the others.

Thanks, Stoti

Thanks guys. It was pretty good conditions for what that's worth. Still, I really like this rifle....

Stoti, the ART barrels we worked so hard on are very good and it can come down to ammo batch for one cal being better than the other for accuracy. The other part of that, though is expense and ease of extracting the accuracy. For me, this 22 with MRDs is WAY EASIER to achieve the results than 25s or 30s. It goes way beyond 100, though. Mine is still on track at almost 300 yards where I'm not sure I could hit a car at 300 with Kings in anything I've tried and King Heavies lose it somewhere after 200. 51 gn 30s seem to hold together okay at 300 but I wouldn't call them better. Sooooo... the 22s make the most sense to me.

I was seriously thinking about the .30 Safari in the beginning, but I just love the look of the Red Wolf. And then there’s the Delta Wolf. Now, I’m really considering the .22 for the reasons you just mentioned. And, not that it’s really any big deal but the ammo is cheaper and air consumption is better. Plus, I like the idea of shooting the MRD’s at 960-980fps vs. the 44.75 or 50gr at 870fps or whatever it is. I really wanted a .30 but I know the .22 makes more sense, maybe I just needed to hear it from someone else. I think I might off load some bass gear $$$, since I don’t have a bass boat anymore. I have enough gear to fill three boats! That’ll put me on the Daystate fast track! If not, I’ll sell some fly gear! I have enough of it to fill a fly shop! LOL Can you tell I want a Daystate? Thanks and have a good one!

Stoti,

When I saw you mention bass fishing gear, I had a good laugh. I too realized that I have more fishing poles ( bass, surf fishing, Spec rods, et. al ) now that hardly ever get used and you gave me a good idea. I still fish in Jordan Lake with the boat, but I'm realizing that I can sell some of these seldom used rigs to fund future AG projects!

My RW Safari .25 backstory: I had a brief encounter with the RAW .30 caliber and RW Safari .25 cal barrels and 100 yard accuracy. Tried as I might, I could not get the accuracy I'm currently getting with the RW Safari HP .22 and with my converted RAW HM1000x .22 with MRDs. In no way am I suggesting that others are not getting great accuracy with their larger calibers, just relaying my own experience. Besides that, the air consumption was such that my Great White was needing more frequent fills and trips to the local Dive Shop.

Like you, I began seeing some pretty impressive results with the RW HP .22 and MRDs, so I switched the .25 ART barrel for the .22 HP ART barrel. Only had the gun back from AoA for just about two weeks, but initial accuracy testing and results are much better than I could get with either of the other two larger calibers.

Think of it this way. You won't have as many fishing poles as Air guns --- or maybe not! 😄

Just got back from the range. I definitely like 75 better than 100 yards. Wind was variable out of the NE, around 11am left to right. Kestrel had it at 1-3 mph at muzzle pretty constant and spot checked at 50 and 75 around 3-5, and back down to 1 mph at target. No flags yet, they will be coming. At my range and unless you are there by yourself, no patience from other shooters setting up wind flags and targets. Knowing this I will be getting there a bit earlier in the fall, once the weather starts getting cooler.

I was very happy with the four cards I shot at 75 yards, but I did shoot one humbling card at 100 y at the end of the session and it was a 219-2X . The four 75 yard cards are posted below.

Sandy, I did try the holds you suggested today and they did work and DID improve my game a bit. Light cheek weld, very light thumb on the stock, rested gun on rear bag and did NOT hold bag with my non-trigger hand like I normally do. Instead, I purposely touched the rear stock with two fingers but DID pull the gun firm into my shoulder. So, I ended up doing those three things and when I did them, I did notice more 10's or better 9's closer to bull. I'm still using Accu-Tac Bipod in front vs. a bag, but I find myslef fiddling less when I have the bipod vs. constantly trying to adjust the front bag.

Yeah, I know the .22HP is the way to go, I think I just needed to hear it from some of you guys that have the .22. Here you go...My fly tying desk and some of my fishing gear!

See my OCFD sign? I know I have a problem but I’m working on it. That’s about 35 years worth of fishing gear I’ve collected. Since my dad passed, I don’t fly fish nearly as much and since I sold the bass boat, I don’t bass fish as much either. I can get rid of a lot of gear and still have plenty. It’s all quality stuff too, so selling just some will get me a lot closer to a Red Wolf! And...will keep my wife happy! Have a good one.

I have Crappie fished, bass fished, trout fished, Salt Water, etc., but the most fun I have ever experienced is Fly Fishing in Colorado with a guide. Wife caught 18, I caught 12 brook, rainbow and brown trout. Guide told me to Shhhh.

$500 with tip for 4 hours, but definitely worth it! I will never forget it and it was a blast.

Yeah, I’ve been flyfishing with my dad since I was a boy, it was kind of our thing. I have a drift boat, so we spent many days drifting down the river together for trout or Steelhead. I really miss that. My dad just died last year but had alzheimer’s for 6 years before he passed. My boys can both cast a fly rod pretty well and they’re about the age that they can spend a whole day in the boat without going crazy. Hopefully we’ll be flyfishing a lot more in the near future. The Sacramento is phenomenal for trout and we have lots of great Steelhead streams nearby. This was the last drift I ever did with my dad and uncle on the Lower Sac.

Fly fishing is a blast, that’s cool you’re learning with your family! I absolutely love the Big Horn, we used to visit friends in Sheridan ever year and fish the Big horn a few days each trip. Tons of fish! Don’t need to be a very good caster to have a fun time. It’s like golf, you can always be working on your cast(swing) and catching some fish here and there too while you’re practicing your cast. If you’re ever up this way in Nor Cal, get a hold of me, we can do a drift on one of our local rivers. Trout year round and in the fall and winter, Salmon and Steelhead. Winter Steelhead season is just around the corner! The Trinity, Sacramento, Klamath, Smith, Mattole, Eel, S. Fork Eel, Van Duden, Garcia, Gualala, Navarro, Russian, Feather, Yuba, Chetco, Elk, Sixes, Pistol and Alsea are all within driving distance of where I live and all beautiful drifts! I’m only about 5 minutes from the Headwaters of the Eel river. Have a good one! Stoti
