Easter Turkey Hunt

It's been a great turkey season this year in California. If you can find a property and spend just a few dollars for a Chinese Ghillie suit (great for Halloween as well), you can not only have a grand time, but enjoy lots of prime meat. .177 to ???? for caliber, accuracy is more important than power- there is only a little, tiny brain shot that knocks them down.

Hope everyone has a great Easter and come fall, let's get some more birds!

This second bird was large for this area, with a 9" beard and weighed 15 lbs, fully dressed.

Sorry for you people who don't have reasonable laws (yet) for Turkey hunting in your state.

California has a spring season- 2 birds, Toms only, and then in the fall, it's 3 birds I believe, either sex.

They are a plague out here, at least until you try to hunt them.

The good thing is, landowners understand the damage the birds do, and our pellet guns are quiet, safe and non threatening. Small parcels that wouldn't normally be a vibrant hunting area are often corridors for the larger properties where we don't have access- but that's ok if we get our timing correct.

Every time I hunt these birds I learn something- I do hope your legislators jump on the logic train and open up a season or two for you!
