Early HM1000 barrels

I am fairly certain that the .22 was only offered with an LW barrel as standard and a Benchmark Barrel as optional. The Benchmark barrel was only offered for a limited time. At that time, I spoke briefly with Martin and Benchmark by phone. I forgot the reason why the Benchmark was no longer an option, perhaps supply and demand? Perhaps of performance and dynamics??

I can’t speak of the other calibers though.

Another thought is that Martin “hand selected” LW barrels for his builds (as I recollect). Maybe the TM and BM models had a extra special LW barrel???

I have an early HM1000 with an LW barrel. At that time Martin did offer Benchmark barrels as an upgrade.

Would that not be a 2 groove barrel ?

I had an HM with a 22 cal. Benchmark barrel. It appeared to be six groove. Definitely not 2. I'm not sure if this was a rimfire barrel adapted to an airgun, but IMO, it didn't shoot any better than the LW. Rimfire barrels have a slightly different bore size. I don't believe that Benchmark makes aigun specific barrels. I may be wrong.

I'm pretty sure the 2 groove was made for LD only and to his spec. I have one from the first batch and it's quite tight but very even. I understood that in later batches people were complaining about the accuracy and it appeared that Benchmark was less critical of the final product or had tooling wear or both. I don't believe there were a great many made.

It's likely that Benchmark adapted the rimfire barrel but it should not have the same dimensions.

Fwiw,
