Dry Firing

tor47: As I'll soon have my first PCP, I am just starting to learn HPA mechanics.

If the reg pressure increases after a period of time... why would you need to fire a shot or two to avoid the first shot being fired with less speed. I would think if the reg pressure did rise a little, the first shot would be faster unless it was so high your hammer couldn't open the valve.

Bob is right. It is one of the fundamentals with a pcp gun. When pressure increase, the valve will need more force from the hammer to open, to give the same amount of air.

The valve in airguns is basically not much different from the valves we have in the tyres in bicycles and cars. That litle pin in a car tyre valve require a given force to open, when filling the tire, just as a valve in a gun require to release a set amount of air:)

All,

Just bought an FX Impact. Will it keep firing without pellet? If so, will it damage the gun? Thanks!
Well... Simple, the manual states one scenario when adjusting the regulator, to actually make sure you don't have ammo loaded and dry fire! ... So if your rifle has enough air (above regulators), you should be ok.
