Double chippy suicide.

I was fine-tuning my 20 foot pound field target rig, prior to tomorrow’s match. While I was shooting a chippy ran up on Maple tree 51 yards away. All I had was his head and neck sticking out.

it was really cool to dial him in at the exact yardage, set it on my scope, placed the crosshairs exactly where I wanted them, A quarter inch from where his head extended past the tree. I squeezed and heard a very solid Thrwapp. He grabbed onto the end of a branch, and held on for 10s. Then a 60 foot free fall backwards with no movement whatsoever while in the air.

I know, pretty cool. It gets better.

I hear another one chirp away in the same general direction. This one is standing on a cut limb. 48 yards away. I turn the scope down 3 clicks…thump - CP heavy shooting at a bit over 900 fps mv, right through the Thoracic cavity. I held just under the arm pit, he folded. I thought I might be able to retrieve him. But he disappeared into a huge patch of itch weed. They both did.

I had the scope on a bit over 50 X, probably 53. I was right in their kitchen.

The picture below is a previous kill from earlier in the summer. The chipmunks are everywhere I need to thin them out or they will kill the entire acorn crop.

I will admit it was fun to have the most accurate Rifle I own in my hands.

Ryan,

It was not hard at all to modify. A hacksaw would work fine. I used a handheld electric circular cutter.

obviously, tape everything off before starting to cut any portion. And I mean really cover everything, you don’t want little flecks of aluminum anywhere near your final product.

after I made the cut, which was pretty rough. I took it over to the belt sander, and gave it the contour I was looking for. Then I went from 100 grit to 1500 grit to a little bit of buffing. And it shines.

I appreciate the lighter rifle when I’m shooting off hand.

Here is one picture. There are pictures all over the Internet of guys shooting field target.

What did that chipmunk do to you?

Did you eat it or you just enjoyed killing it?

What if someone else treated you like you treated that chipmunk?

Senseless killing like this makes me have little respect for people like you.

Seriously?! I think you stumbled in the wrong forum section. I shoot a lot of rats around my house and I enjoy killing them. Do I eat them? Hell no!!!

@Flintsack Awesome shooting and nice rig. It's one of those unexpected moments where we find ourselves asking "I wonder if..."

They destroy my property, just like a criminal, if they break the law, they are penalized !! To many folks give them a free pass, just like our court system does. They keep releasing the criminals back into society!! Today..78% of crime comes from repeat offenders, if you expect crime to stop, quite giving criminals a free pass.

Add me to the list of little respect. Since you're triggered, maybe this video will calm you down.

Did you miss the part of the OP that said: "The chipmunks are everywhere I need to thin them out or they will kill the entire acorn crop." ?

Perhaps you are unfamiliar w/ the important role acorns have in the food chain, yeah?

Acorns, along with other nuts, are termed mast. Wildlife that consume acorns as an important part of their diets include birds, such as jays, pigeons, some ducks, and several species of woodpeckers. Small mammals that feed on acorns include mice, squirrels and several other rodents. Acorns have a large influence on small rodents in their habitats, as large acorn yields help rodent populations to grow.

Large mammals such as pigs, bears, and deer also consume large amounts of acorns; they may constitute up to 25% of the diet of deer in the autumn. In Spain, Portugal and the New Forest region of southern England, pigs are still turned loose in dehesas (large oak groves) in the autumn, to fill and fatten themselves on acorns.

I shoot them. They did over $1700 in damage to my Mini Cooper, $400 to a sail, and another $600 to my John Deere tractor. This doesn't count the dozens of flower bulbs dug up either. Yeah, my neighbor didn't understand why I was shooting them either until he had to fix the holes in his shed and replace the deck chair cushions 4 years in a row.

I have no respect for people like you, who instead asking why the need, sit and pass judgment without knowing all the facts.

The acorns are for the deer in the fall. Have you ever watched 20 or 30 chipmunks strip an oak tree? They go up and down in a line like train cars, with acorns in their mouth. The line never stops going. It’s amazing to watch. Squirrels will gladly join in also.

sometimes the train gets disrupted. Right now there are way too many. I need to get rid of some before they all have another batch of Younguns
