DonnyFL SUMO vs. RONIN

Can anyone tell me if there is a marked difference in noise reduction between the 1.6" diameter SUMO and to the 2" diameter RONIN. I have a SUMO on my Wildcat .25 MKI and it really takes the bark out! I was going to buy the RONIN, but it was sold out in .25, so I went with the SUMO. The more I think about it, the more I believe that the SUMO is the right choice for the WC .25. It looks organic and weighs less. I'm thinking the RONIN is a bit of overkill.

Animalhitman I don't know what you're talking about. No such thing as overkill lol ?Depends on your need I guess but I shoot my .22 Wildcat with my 1/2 x 20 Emperor. Neighbors don't hear a thing, they just think the birds are having a heart attack and falling out of the trees. However, the Sumo like you said is the all around go to moderator for most people.

Haha. I'm Sicilian and when someone says that a dish has too much garlic, I say, "There's no such thing as too much garlic!" (I've been known to eat cloves of garlic like peanuts!)

Having said that, the reason I bought a moderator is that I have noticed animals twitch after I squeeze the trigger before the subsonic pellet reaches them. This has fouled the shot on too many occasions. I am hoping that the moderation will eliminate this issue. I need to run a shot string first, but then I will field test the SUMO.

BTW, have you received my returned adapter? I should have done my homework first. I have received my new shroud extension and it works perfectly. You are an engineering and manufacturing genius!

Donny, I just got back from zeroing-in my WC after installing your SUMO. OMG! She's so quiet! It's so much more noticeable in the field than in the workshop (my bedroom :)). And it was dramatic there. I Chrony-ed a full gun bottle (47 regulated shots) first and there was only a 1.2 fps difference in average muzzle fps between no-SUMO and SUMO. I didn't even have to generate a new Chairgun range card. There were only a few numbers that were different and they were all at the hundredths of a mil-dot level; de minimis.

My baby definitely needed a rezero though after I installed the SUMO. She was shooting 2" low and 2" right at the optimal zero distance of 42.3 yds (as per Chairgun) post-SUMO. It is my understanding that a full ranging is not necessary after a rezero. This would tend to play out as I nailed two doves and a bunny after the rezero at ranges of 74 yds, 31 yds, and 12 yds using my Chairgun holdoffs!

Below is a picture of my zero target. I ended up with three consecutive shots in the red. Not bad for shooting off a Trigger Stick tripod, standing up with an intermittent breeze :). I like to zero and range in the same exact conditions in which I hunt. The laboratory setting of an indoor range with a sit-down shooting bench and a rifle rest is too sterile to replicate the down 'n dirty field!

No, Pesk; I got the .25 cal SUMO. My understanding is the only SUMO with the vents is the new .30 cal model. I got the email from Donny too featuring his three new designs. Boy, he's a real go-getter, isn't he?! Those new designs look awesome. God, how much quieter can it get?!

I'm just wondering; I believe Donny said in a reply to my initial post on this topic that a .30 cal. model can be put on a .25 cal. rifle. I really like the RONIN. I would have got that one if it wasn't sold out. But actually, I think the SUMO is the right fit for me. It's ridiculously quiet and it keeps the weight down. I am amazed that one man can design and manufacture such a broad product line for so many makes and models of rifles! I would love to see Donny's workshop!
