I own both a yong Heng and the hatsan lighting compressor. I tired hydraulic oil which was recommended for the yong yeng. I also tried mag1 compressor oil that says non detergent on the bottle. And I tired royal purple 100. That all stink of oil when running the compressor. I run it indoor so the smell is much worst than if I run it outside. Is there an oil that doesn't smell when running in the compressor or is that just normal for these oil type compressor to give off this odor.

I could not take the smell from hydraulic oil in the YH either. I switched to the Royal Purple 100 too and after a second oil change I don't find the smell to be that bad. I use mine in the house too, so I know this is a big deal.

My Vevor made the output air stink, but not the room. I used Royal Purple as well. Use a Shoebox now and it has no detectable smell.

Try Amsoil ISO 100 30/40 grade compressor oil. You can order it straight from AMSOIL, and a $14 Quart should give you 2.5 fills. My Lightning has never had a smell, till like a month ago prior to it failing. The oil brand new is crystal clear going in, and after its first drain at 10 hours of use it barely had a tint of brown.
When my compressor failed last month I drained the oil and it was dark brown through out. It was also releasing a ton of crank case vent(in leading up to the failure) in which I noticed a smell, when I didn’t before when all things were new.
i have a strong feeling after my recent rebuild the oil will stay clean looking and the smells will be gone.
