Does the Uragan Slug?

I'd have to lookup my data but mine hasn't liked the slugs I've tried. 1 version of VK slugs failed completely but it was the only batch/weight of those I tried. Good or bad for any future hopes, the slugs he sent me were poor in all respects. I never posted pics but they are a mess. 3 diff NSA Slugs still failed but they were produced/pressed uniformly in shape/weight. I did get a few good groups but they certainly were not the norm.

Tried each as delivered and sized to .25, .249, .248 with NOE dies and a decent press. My barrel simply doesn't like any of them.

Again, don't have the data at hand but I was not adjusting the reg along the way as part of the testing. I am shooting JSB .25 34g MKII's at 890fps. The pellets CAN give me .5 to .75 inch groups at 75y, The best I ever did with my slug testing was 3 inches at the same distance.

More power might change things but I'm happy with the pellets so I'm still resisting turning the reg up to try....

I've been shooting other stuff but when the uragan makes it back to the bench I will test all these slugs and sizing again at some point after pulling the JB past out.

I stopped trying simply because I saw no benefit in making slugs work when the pellets did everything I could expect, but I'm still curious 😉.

@JCD Thanks for the info. I'm actually asking for a friend that is interested in slugs. I am with you, pellets do what I need out of my guns. Maybe I should clarify the Data question. I think accuracy between 50 to 100 yards were his concerns for hunting. I guess Reg and Speeds would come in handy if they grouped. But if they don't it would not matter. Thanks again.

I think it should. In my .30 Vulcan2 Tactic (after MUCH cleaning, polishing, adjusting and tuning) it shoots the .30 NSA 47.2 grain HP DB slugs pretty well. The only difference between that and the Uragan is a couple of inches barrel length. If I had the .25 Uragan, I'd try the NSA 26.8 grain HP DB slugs, they are similar to the .30 caliber 47.2 slugs, plus they shoot very well in my .25 EDgun R5 Super Magnum.

My .30 Uragan is VERY happy with the NSA .50 gr HP-DB. Have yet to test them past 50 yrds, but 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups 50 yrds running em about 900 fps. They like a very clean barrel. That seems to be a recurrent theme with all my LW barrels and slugs. Think slugs foul em up faster than pellets. I'll run a couple patches through every 100 or so, keep it clean, especially if I'm hunting.

Still waiting to test the 55's, 60's, 65's and the VKs.

As for pellets, the Polymags group sick tight. 1/2 inch tight. Even better than the JSB 44's, which I cant really explain (??).

Another gent on here, NEairgunner? has had good results with the .30 Uragan as well.

Do 50gr NSA slugs and polymags fit the Uragan .30 mag? I saw a review which said the polys were too long. Been thinking about grabbing one but theres only 3 pellets in .30 (two domes and polymags)

The slugs fit so far without issue. I dunno if I'll run into any problems with the heavier NSAs. Truth be told the 50 gr are just as accurate at the JSBs, and it is slinging them at 880 fps (87 ft lbs) and getting 50 shots on the reg. INSANE! Tuning this beast is going to be hella fun. I bought it really for longer distance paper and hunting.

The polymags need a trim with some nail clippers, and as long as you are consistent, they are as well. And WOW they smack HARD.

I have no doubt the big boys are going to start churning out .30 and bigger pellets soon. The hades are just about out in .25... .30 not far behind.

Thanks, hardly any magazines (the few that I've tried) fit polymags. Only my daystate and Impact side shots and barely.... FX crown mags. Predator should either shorten the polymags or offer two different versions like they do in .22.

Taipan Veteran magazine worked great with the polymags, but recently I tried them on a BullBoss and :( not good for those magazines

I just came inside from shooting some 5 shot groups at 50yds with my .30 Uragan off a bench. Bipod with no back bag and I averaged 1/2" five shot groups at 50yds. Mine is set up shooting the 44.75 grn jsb's at 915fps. Conditions were 35* and breezy.

This last pic is 2 seperate 5 shot groups.

I know there not slug pics but I have yet to shoot any slug out of a air rifle.

if you want top performance, either source a second bbl. such as A TJ's pb barrel that is designed for slugs, or remove the choke. If it is a quality barrel, and they are, they don't' rally need a choke for s pellet's unless the barrel has a restriction somewhere down the tub other tan the choke and slug only rarely play nice with chokes.

If you insist on trying to get very good accuracy from a slug, you will have to actually remove and slug your barrel an order slugs apx. .0001 under the choke groove size to n more than .0003 thou. going a full thou. at a time is a fools errand. It will never give true precision as it in not a precision fit. If you find success, it is more of blind hog finds acorn than typical.

This is the number one thing I have learned in shooting and designing slugs and testing for well, since 2007. 14 years now.
