Do you even pump

Hi,

I thought it'd be a fun thread to start here a competition over PCP filling.

Many view filling a PCP with a pump a lenghty operation, but for the first time today I put a stopwatch to see how long it takes with serious effort.

And with 2 or 3 very short pauses to check the pressure (it is dark here) it took me 3 minutes and 20 seconds to fill my FC Wildcat .25 from 150 bar to 240 bar at 4 Celsius
(2175 psi to 3480 psi at 39 F).

Although I ate Mämmi before this which knowingly gives superhuman strength..

With first reminding you that you should not fill like this repeatedly, I want to know how I fare against more serious pumpers around here!

What is your time?

My one and only pcp is a Wildcat .25 and it only gets used for squirrel duty. I pump it like once a month. I take my time. Usually about fifteen minutes with three pauses for windage. %^) If I want to put holes in paper or tin cans I use the springers. I just cannot justify the expense of a bottle ( no fillers anywhere near here anyway ) and I sure a heck ain't gonna buy a compressor. I spose I could pump the Wildcat in one session if I had to ... but I never have to and besides, the EMTs are 30 miles away.

Just reading this thread makes me sweat! Have pumped before and I am not as young as I used to be!
The PCPs with the Buddy bottles are the worst to pump. If I had to pump as my only source of air, I would just shoot a Discovery or Maximus which only need 2000psi of air. Pumping from 2500-3000 is where it starts to get a lot harder to pump.

Curious to know can the CRICKETS be hand pumped? I know they have an air flow restriction on the fill to slow down the fills.

I used to pump my FX Boss to 250 bar. It's all in the technique. Yes, one has to put some umph into it, but it's really not that bad. What makes it hard is when you rush and try to do it too fast. If it wasn't for the issue of needing really dry air (I use Nitrogen now) I may stil be pumping. I like the connection of needing to put some effort into that which will be projecting the pellets.

I pump. A local airgunning friend has loaned me one of his CF tanks and free fills to fill my PCPs. The tank is low on air and we haven't been able to make our schedules work to get together so I am back to pumping. Pumping wasn't that bad to begin with and it isn't that bad now even after being spoiled with a tank and air to fill from. I actually think that I like to pump. It is satisfying to fill up the rifle and shoot with some physical effort. Time to fill, I would estimate, is 5-10 minutes depending on how far down I shoot the rifle. I have been filling sooner since I have had to go back to pumping and I only fill to 200 bar or there abouts. I have the power adjuster on my Royale 400 so when just plinking I will shoot at the medium setting for distances under 50 yards. At 50 and up I will crank up the power to high. 30 yards and under I will turn it down to low. It sips air on low. I bet I could get over 300 shots on the lowest setting. I think a 12 ft/lb .177 plinker would be the hit and use very little air with minimal pumping needed.

I pump both .177 Mrod and .22 Wildcat. Both take me about 10 minutes or less, depending on how often I stop to let the pump and pumper cool off.

I've thought about purchasing a high pressure nitrogen bottle to refill from, but it wouldn't get fully discharged, so would be a spendy way to refill.

Have also looked at compressors, but they are pretty spendy too.

Will need to get a recipe for that, Slayerious, it sounds delicious from the description I found.
