Do the .22 cal 25g JSB redesigns fly well at lower velocities?

So far in an Edgun R3M YES, FX Royale, Verminator, Bobcat ALL NO concluding using STs need to shoot hotter to fly straight. Cricket standard OK not as good as the originals Cricket compact NO, Taipan Mutant standard YES, Sumatra 2500 YES. All tested single loaded for accuracy to eliminate any variables EXCEPT the Sumatra.

Best to try these in your own guns because results may vary from gun to gun unless you are trying to get an FX to shoot them at that lower speed in which I can say NO.

These are 3 shots out of my Mini Carbine. I need to look back and see if I Chronied. Don’t remember. But the 18s fly out at ? High 800s? I’m sure these are much slower.

That is fantastic! What kind of gun was that? What distance?

CA

Kalibrgun Cricket Mini Carbine at 30 yards. Unfortunately the chrono was not working that day. The POA is obviously the black dot. At that distance the 18’s POInwas the POA. So yes, there is a drop for sure.

Depending on a lot, so no promise, I may be able to Chrono tomorrow AM and report back.

What velocity? I know the redesigns perform really well in the mid 900's, but I'm curious how they would perform at lower velocities like 850, 830, 800 fps.

Just plugged some #'s into Chairgun. If you've got a platform that shoots the 18g at 900 fps then without any adjustments it should shoot the 25g about 760 fps. In this scenario there is a pretty significant difference in drop at 100y. The 18g pellets will drop about 17'' while the 25g pellets will drop about 23''. In order for the drop to be similar the 25g pellets need to shot about 850 fps. I used a known BC of .033 for the 18g & I guesstimated .040 for the 25g based on some previous work:

I suppose there are 2 looming questions bouncing around my head:

  1. What is the BC of the 25g at lower velocities? This will obviously affect the POI at distance.
  2. Are the 25g pellets as accurate at lower velocities as they are at higher velocities?

I may have to reprogram my RW and take some Labradar readings. If you've got any of the information that I seek please chime in.

    Thanks

I would sure like to hear how these Korean heavy pellets do ballistically because they seem to shoot accurately at long range such as 100 yards and beyond in high powered PCP guns with German and Korean barrels- Seneca .22 Cal, 28.5 Grains, Domed, 125ct they apparently are relabeled Eun Jins or Dae Sungs. I would recommend trying these if anyone seeks excellent long distance accuracy if their PCP gun has enough power. It is designed as a hunting pellet but I believe it would be well suited for long distance target shooting as well.

Michael I shot my RedWolf at medium with the stock settings. The medium setting shoots the monsters at about 830fps. It was quite windy and the group at 50m wasn’t impressive. I used the Labradar but somehow managed to lose the series...

Anyway I’ll repeat the medium power shot string early tomorrow and post here It should be calm so should get a better idea of accuracy

Have you tried slugs in your RedWolf? I haven’t hear from anyone who has yet but would be interested in how they go If they don’t shoot well I’m thinking of having an adapter made up for my smooth x barrel to utilise the slug liner The barrel is so simple to remove and the slug liner shoots the 18g pellets very well That would be a great combination You could have the perfect tune for both and change from one to the other in seconds.

Michael.

Hi Michael. To answer your question yes. At 850 they are accurate out to 100 yards easy in my bullboss which is power tuned and regulated. At 850 fps The bc is .047 when measured at 50 yards. At 777 fps the bc is .041 at 50 yards. But at 777 fps they destabilize past 50 yards. At 850 fps i can hit my 1" spinner 9 out of 10 shots at 100 yards. Great pellets.

Out of my .22 R3 Long with power tune, the RD Monsters are lights out at 915-920 fps. This Eddy rivaled my Red Wolf at all distances and is easier for me to shoot.

My .22 Vet Long with power tune shoots them at 925 fps. It’s not as accurate as the Eddy but still very good. I’ve since lowered to 905 fps and will give that a try soon

Jimmy Fussel’s .22 Cricket I recently tuned is really accurate with them at 885 fps, like impressively accurate.

This concerns me because with a muzzle velocity of 825 FPS the downrange velocity will be about 700 fps at 50 yards, and about 625 fps at a hundred yards.

For some reason I feel like these pellets need a higher velocity to stabilize. Please prove me wrong.

Well it was still really windy! Blowing my notebook off the table windy but I went ahead and shot 2 groups at 100y.

So yes this group nothing to write home about and I was thinking it will prove nothing but all 10shots are there within about 4 inches.

Labradar for the first group.

Second group and there are 2 extra pellets there On the far left that where not in the 10shots! So only 5 hit the target. So in a RedWolf at least at lower speeds the redesigned monsters do become unstable. I could see them impacting and it was random Saw 1 or 2 in flight and they weren’t stable

This is the Labradar for the second group.

Michael, I listed the examples I tested that fell within your 830-850fps. I had tested them in other guns which I did not mention because it fell outside outside of your parameters. I went based on memory and I make it a point to shoot newly tested pellets over the chrony to see how fast or slow they shoot and make a mental note. I can tell you that it shot reasonably well in a Korean Sumatra throughout its medium to under max power range since it has an adjustable power wheel and recall the lowest I tried was in the upper 700s and did fine but had tighter groups at 950fps.

Yes in Australia. I think the wind would have been the main factor affecting the bc. It is blowing quite strongly. Normally the bc works out at around.05 at 100y. I’d like to try it again in calm weather. In your testing did you end up at 940fps because of an accuracy advantage at that speed. Was it because there was no advantage in accuracy shooting with more speed and so you settled there for better shot count?

I calm conditions I’m constantly impressed with the RedWolf’s accuracy. It’s not unusual to get 10 pellets around an inch at 100y. Just need some calmer weather!
