DIY Adustable butt plate

Made out of picatinny rail with the slots removed + 4 camera mounts and two metal butt plates. originally made in brass but two heavy re made in aluminium. Additional holes have been drilled in the metal butt plate to allow 10mm of horizontal adjustment both right and left. Have one photo below showing horizontal adjustment. Think this version is final, its on the Kral puncher breaker a real pain in the neck to shoulder.

Thanks for the comments. its a cheap fix. I live in London uk. The camera mounts come in at 8 pounds sterling for a pack of four, a sheet of aluminium 4mm plate about 10 pounds sterling and some fixings all sourced at amazon. Cant recall the costs of the picatinny rail but i would say i managed the whole project for about 25 to 30 pounds sterling including fixings. I like to have the adjustment of a rifle so i think ill do the same to the rotex RM8. Can be done i would imagine on any rifle, the rotex i have has a synthetic stock so the receiver screws in the stock are recessed so i will have to add some form of spacer, still i like a project so ill give it a go. Thanks.

The rubber butt pad has not been touched its as it came with the gun, the camera mounts needed no work they come drilled and threaded. All that is needed is the 4mm aluminium plate that is up against the stock and the rubber butt. I used the rubber butt as a template drew around it onto the aluminium plate. Then a hacksaw and file and drilled the holes. Its easy but time consuming. The high polished finish i got is obtained by using ever lighter grades of file and emery cloth and then metal polishing auto paste. And also you will have to file the picatinny rail. Its a fair bit of work, i like a bullpup for the balance but the neck position plays with my neck and i could find no adjustable buttpad that i liked so i was forced to come up with this or ditch the rifle which i did not want to do. Aluminium is fairly soft so use a ruff file and saw and a vice. I do have lathe, cnc machine, bench drill etc and still did it by hand, even with modern tools when making a one off sometimes its easier to get stuck in and do it by hand. Good luck

paulsteve,

Right on man, your setup turned out Fantastic!
I had a few similar ideas [mixing camera mounts/plates with rifle mounts/plates]
Sky's the limit when it comes to just a little bit of customizing..

I have a harness/vest called a Cotton Carrier that's used to hold heavy cameras and big zoom lenses..
There's an accessory add-on hip version too..

Think quick release ball and socket - just using a flat washer type mount..

Mixing and matching components, I might make a few mounts for my pistol and smaller rifles
that that I can just clip them on/off of either my chest or my hip - instead of using a sling..
I'm still dreaming about a few different designs.. and.. weighing out motivation vs. being lazy. 😃

👍👍

Hi paulsteve, very nice and really elegant solution!

I have a question: do you happen to know the width of the Breaker's stock? I'm currently stuck in Southamerica due to Corona, but ordered the same Puncher Breaker in walnut. And also want to add an adjustable butt plate. I found it as spare part for some Puncher series' models (Monarch etc.). So I was wondering if I can adapt it to the wooden stock.

Thank you very much for sharing that cool solution,

Chris
