Discovery VT-2 10X44, Good News, Bad News

The good news - It's seems to be as clear as my SWFA 12X for a lot less money. No complaints whatsoever.

The bad news - According to Airgun optics plus the weight is 16.86 oz. The realty is it weights 21.3

The frustrating part - I had seem them listed on Amazon at a cheaper price but the weight was listed at 21.3 oz. I sent Charlie a text specifically asking which weight was correct. He replied that 16.86 oz. was the correct weight. What the heck, I ordered two based on the great reviews Discovery scopes have been getting.

The bottom line - My obvious options are send them back or quit whining and live with it. Guess I'll do the later.

The reality - Nah, think I'll do both.

I just received a HD 4-20x50 SFIR IR-MIL FFP scope and it is pretty heavy too. However, I am amazed by the glass, reticle, turrets, illumination and overall build quality. For $270 I don’t think there’s a scope out there that can touch this thing. I’m really impressed! I’m keeping mine for sure, what’s a few ounces?

That's not good

I've been trying to order more VT-3 3-12x44 for a week now. Hopefully they'll have some soon. As far as a 16x version my sales lady seemed to not know about it, or was trying to keep it secret, lol. She said if they came out with one she'd let me know.

Where did the info about the new compact 4-16 come from? That'd be great if it's true.

Next time you contact them please explain to them why sunshades should not have holes in them... it totally defeats the purpose.

I also found the holes in the sunshade a bit strange. Hummmm.....the holes do make it easy to "snug down and loosen" the shade with a stick through the holes LOL! I needed to shorten my shade about 1/2" so my VT-2 4-16x50 would fit on the HW95 receiver while giving a reasonable eye relief........

Another oddity to me was the ugly/useless for hunting blue flip-up lens covers............

I ended up painting my "flip-ups" black using black paint for plastic...........

It's because Chinese people can't own guns and don't know anything about guns or hunting. These scopes are designed from a what looks cool to Chinese people perspective with no understanding beyond basic function. They told me they would change the design so we'll just have to wait and see.

The weight discrepancy may just be bad info, or there may actually be a weight difference from one model year to the next (Discovery has been trimming some fat of several of their scopes since last year). Personally, 3.5 ounces isn't a deal-breaker for me. It's hard to get good info because Discovery's own website is half-baked at best. They make great scopes, but half of the newer-model scopes that they sell aren't even listed on their website.

True enough about the website being sadly lacking. Thanks for the info on the 4-16. Not sure why the sales person didn't know about it! Anyway that's great news. Most of the scopes don't have the blue covers or the holey sunshades, but obviously some still do, like the vt-3 and Hi line.

I've got some VT-T 3-18x50 ffp scopes in stock now with the phone mount that are quite nice and a good price. Still waiting for the VT-3 3-12X44SF to be available again.

Cheers

If they produce the VT-3 in 4-16X and keep it small and light I'll buy your first one.

Did you have a quality issue with a Discovery Optics scope?
