Did the Ernest CF barrel house.

Ordered this a few weeks ago off Aliexpress, got 20x14x500mm. Couldn't find any on ebay or Amazon in that size.

Took two weeks and fits perfect, I wanted it so it can slide over the barrel house and I can slide it off and onto another to change caliber. No epoxy or anything.

I was planning on cutting the conical end of the shroud off and hopefully sliding the CF inside it and use the shroud to snug it up. But its solid not a thin wall piece and don't have any 20mm drill bits or close to that. Decided to just remove the cone and make a bushing out of electrical tape wraps. Its hidden anyways.

For some reason one of my barrel houses was a bit bigger in OD than the other two so I sanded it down a bit then reblued it.

Not expecting any accuracy difference just wanted that extra support and rigidity.

Was around 25$ USD shipped and got here in 2 weeks. Really nice stuff!

Got it from this place, remember you dont need more than 500mm for the Impact even with a 700mm.

Link isnt working :(

I ordered the same thing but for a bare custom barrel I got here on agn, looks like you don’t plan on using the shroud? I thought earnest’s mod is carbon sleeve around the liner but the housing itself since it doesn’t do anything besides looks great. Rigidity of the shroud can be increased by a carbon collar between the frame/action and the shroud but I’m not sure it would do much in reality. Liner sleeve is one of his mods really peaked my interest.

i know fx is crazy busy but they should come out with solid carbon wrapped barrel and skip the current housing all together as an upgrade. That would definitely increase accuracy and save weight.

Other than esthetics, any performance gain? I hear a lot about this but no data backing improvement in accuracy.

Like I said I'm not expecting any accuracy gains it's already more accurate than I am. I'm after rigidity and more of a safety margin if I drop or fall holding it. I bring it all over the place through wet slippery forests.

I'm still using the shroud, took the rear cone off so the CF slides in under it. Looks totally stock unless you look up and under like in the last pic.

Heres the shroud over the CF

Just a friendly notice, if there is any gap whatsoever between the barrel and the sleeve anywhere along its length, it will give rise to unpredictable vibration modes that may be detrimental to accuracy. The mechanics are similar to barrel that makes incidental contact with the air tube, or a springer with loose stock screws. I presume you have a good baseline of how it was doing pre-sleeved, in which case you would recognize it right away but I wanted to plant the thought just in case.

Appreciated, I didn't do anything that's not reversible and for 25$ it's worth a try to me.

Does anyone know what size the inner CF tube needs to be? The one that eliminates the orings on the liner?

Depends on caliber, I think .22 is a bit over 8mm. 9mm ish for .25 and 10mm ish for .30. These all need work to make it fit, then who's to say the work is 100% aligned with the bore. I'll skip that mod personally

Ernest should be selling the inner carbon tubes soon. I’ll be getting couple of those and his larger transfer ports, I like to support people like him who brings innovation and contribute immensely to our community.

Forsure if I went that route I'd get it through Ernest. Guaranteed fit I'm sure and he does so much for the community.
