Diana RWS 34 Springer or Hatsan 95 Vortex QE?

Newbie question... Trying to decide between Diana RWS 34 Springer and Hatsan 95 Vortex QE in relatively the same price point neighborhood. Can anyone point me in the right direction in the following categories: .177 or .22? Which for a newbie? Loudness? Trying to keep volume to a minimum. Craftsmanship? Warranty? Pros/Cons either way. Which would you recommend? TIA

No experience with Hatsan. I have a budget build Rws 34 refurb. Rws lockdown mounts and cheap cheap cv life 6-24 scope. Decent on 16x. Shooting jsb 8.4 @ 928 and zeroed @ 45 yds a hammer on starlings out to 75 yds . I punish spinners out to 70 yds. Great little pesting rig for the money. Hard to beat German quality.

Targets? Pesting? A little of both? The edge goes to the Diana for build quality but the 95 is still a well built rifle. I've had both: the 34 in .177, the 95 in .22. Also not a clue how good the 34's are now that the Chinese are involved, so should you choose the 34, I'd say try finding an older one.

-While it's not a T06, the Quattro is still a real nice trigger and very adjustable.

-Quieter goes to the Hatsan unless you want to moderate the 34.

-Ease of tuning goes to the 34, they're one of the easiest springers to tear down and tune with any number of aftermarket kits and springs available depending on the power level you're looking for.

-The 95, even being a gas ram, can still be tuned to make it a smoother shooting rifle and can even be converted to a springer later on should you choose to, but Hatsan is the only real source for parts. There's not much aftermarket unless you want to buy from the Russian guy on Ebay.

Probably didn't help your decision much, just my random lame thoughts.

I had no idea that the RWS 34 now has CHINESE INVOLVEMENT??? I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE 100% MADE IN GERMANY!!!

If it's NOW CHINESE I WOULD BUY A NEW SIG ASP20 from Kittery Trading post $280 shipped for a synthetic version with 20% discount on your first order once you sign up for their emails and free shipping over $82.00.

Yo, old stock vs new Chinese version. New ones stock cover (Chinese) barrel block.

I have a "blended family" Webley Stingray .177.. An English Webley Action with an earlier Hatsan trigger (Not Quatro) and a Hatsan stock. This is a rare bird. But the stock feels like a walnut board.with checkering. I only paid $100 for it. It's a factory bitsa..

I'd opt for a tried and true 34. Huge fan base. I am confident of it's accuracy. Are there many tuning options available for the Hatsan?

I’ve had a Hatsan 95 in .22 and have a D34 in .177. Honestly, the only thing the D34 offers over the Hatsan to me is that it’s a hair more accurate. The bluing and stock are shinier, but I’d rather they not be. Trigger is better, but the Quattro on the Hatsan is good enough for me.

Open sights are better on the Hatsan and I like having an integrated cocking handle. Stock isn’t finished as nice, but mine was actually pretty decent walnut. It has a rubber recoil pad so it doesn’t slip when propped up in a corner. Plus the Hatsan seemed to fit me better and is cheaper when comparing regular prices.

Both are pretty powerful and a bit loud/violent. D34 would be better if you really want .177 cal, and is easier to take apart and put back together if that’s something you see yourself doing a lot of.

$150 for a Hatsan 95 vs $300 for a D34, to me, is a no-brainer for the Hatsan. I’d save another $100 and buy an R9 before I’d ever buy a $300 D34. And if you decide to get a Hatsan, I’d strongly suggest getting it in .22 cal. My preference would also tend towards the regular spring version over the gas-piston.

I bid on that ebay M34.

Just for the sake of clarity the Diana Model 34 is still made in Germany. In the latest Diana lineup the Chinese involvement is in the rifles whose model number is spelled out. For instance there is a Diana Model Two Forty in the catalog. This is a made in China model that used to be the Diana 240.

They are also coming out with a Diana Model 34 EMS. This model is designed so that the new owner can easily make certain changes and adjustments to the rifle that used to be done by sending out to a tuner.

I have owned a bunch of Dianas (including a .177 model 34) and a Hatsan springer (135 in .22). My biggest "issue" with the Hatsan springers is the angle of the Quattro trigger. Look at the trigger blade. For me, to get a good pull you not only had to pull back, but you also had to pull UP. I never liked that. And this trigger angle seems to be unique to the springers with quattro triggers. I have also had Hatsan PCPs (flash and at44) and really got along well with each of those quattro trigger mechanisms...

I also have the Dianna 34 and love it. I had a job upstate this week and we rented an AirBNB close to the job. I called the day before and asked if there were any ranges in the area. The owner said there was one right next door so I brought a bunch of my guns. AR, 4 pistols, mini 14, 308, etc. grabbed the pellet gun on the way out on a whim. When we pulled up I realized that when he said next door he meant literally next door. He had a 100 yard range right outside the back door. We shot our butts off all week but I have to admit I had the most fun with the Dianna and don’t feel a bit guilty about wasting ammo.

I can’t say enough about how happy I am with it. This gun has convinced me to stop buying regular firearms and start collecting air rifles. They just make too much sense. Especially with all the ammo shortages.
