Diana 340 N-tec Luxus Pro Compact out of production

I learned today from a Diana reseller that Diana has stoped the production of the Compact series of their Diana 340 N-tec (gasram) rifles, since it was bought by GSG. They introduced the 340 series shortly before they ran into problems and a few of those rifles (don't know what the exact numbers are) left the production line, just before the entire production of Diana air rifles stopped. The company was bought by GSG and the factory was moved to another location. Recently they started the production of air rifles again, and the Compact version of the 340 has left the reseller lists, and has even been removed from the official Diana website and the product lineup brochure. From the moment of introduction up until the moment the factory moved, the 340 was pretty hard to come by. Now that the factory has reopened, you start seeing resellers having the 340 on stock, except for the Compact version. I was lucky to get one second hand (in pristine condition, never used) from a German guy, right before the company was taken over. By the way, the difference between the Compact and regular version is a 4" shorter barrel and a barrel weight on the Compact.

I haven't been able to get this confirmed by other sources, but since the Premium or Luxus Pro Compact is no longer available on the official Diana website or in their brochures, it seems that the rumour is at least based on something.

So if you're able to get your hands on one of the most amazing looking brake barrel gasram rifles ever made (in my humble opinion), get one because I'm betting on this thing becoming a collectors item eventually.

Here's my Diana 340 N-tec Luxus Pro Compact in .177 with walnut stock and gold plated trigger, and I think I might just hold on to it... ;-) 

 
I have one barely fired, jonnes! You and Joe (patch-eyed) gave me advice on how to smoothen out the shot cycle (never got a chance though). And to think I was toying with selling it to fund a s510 ultimate sporter fac purchase. Wait, did the issue at the factory have something to do with the luxus pro compact model? I mean, this rifle almost shoots like a pcp...especially the trigger!...feather light for a Springer (you had to have had misfired once or twice due to the fact). I have pics but can't seem to get pics from my photo gallery to post.

No, it had nothing to do with the 340, the factory was closed and moved to another location because they where bought by GSG. But I assume that they might have stopped producing the Compact version because the barrel weight tends to come lose after a 100 shots or so. Every owner of a Compact has experienced the same issue at some point. So what I did was put some Loctite on the barrel weight and slapped it back on, never came lose since, and I've shot two full tins of pellets through it after the Loctite job. The T06 trigger is the absolute best non-match trigger out there, bar none! On a good day, I shoot sub MOA groups at 50 yards with that thing. Love it! :D Well, I assume you're happy you didn't sell it. They're hard to come by as it is, and now they've stopped the production, it's going to be even harder.

Glad you're happy with your discussion mate. Yeah, these rifles are absolutely gorgeous, the finishing on the action, the trigger, great barrels, and the wood on these things, man... perfection in a nutshell. But then again, I'm a sucker for wood, I just love that material. Especially walnut and other exotic wood types.

For what I understood, the first 4 digits are some sort of production code, the last digits are the actual production number. So that would mean that there where at least 2694 produced. I sent an email to Diana to get some more information on how to read those numbers.

I've heard some bad things about rifles from the new factory also. It's said they have some startup problems, but those will be solved once they have their production line back up to standards. Come to think of it, maybe the first two digits in the serial is related to the factory they where built in. The production month and year are stated separately on the Diana's. So anything that starts with 2 is new factory, with 01 is the old factory... Sounds plausible.

Yea, looking at mine and knowing how this thing Shoots I'd have to raise an eyebrow to that forum. This gun is all of the $700 price tag! Sheesh! "Low quality fail?!" I wish I could let you handle it. I prefer gas piston harmonics (WHUMP) over springs (TWANG), and the N-Tec is a dream. I did have grainy cocking out the box (was advised to polish internals, but I just wiped factory lube off and applied Hoppes gun oil here and there) and that was easily remedied. I don't know your budget or preference but I've handled the Beeman RX-2 (big magnum) and I enjoyed it (actually inspired me to get the Hatsan 135 Vortex .30 cal [worst purchase ever] ). Don't waste your time with Benjamin, Gamo, Hatsan and other sub-$400 gas springers (may well serve their purpose) because there's an apparent shooting difference between them and higher end gas springers.

@ddransomi; couldn't agree more with you, in my humble opinion the N-tec is the best gasram out there, next to the proven Theoben (used in Theoben air rifles and the HW90).

@Deja; not sure if they ship to Scandinavian countries, but you might want to check out Solware in the UK. They sell them in the 12 Ft/lbs version (800 fps) version. Those shoot even better than the full power version I have. Solware even has the Pro Compact on their website.
