Desirable Turrets

I just notice the ballistic turrets on the Schmidt and Bender Scope. Can a turret be interchanged with another scope? Probably not but somethings like this really seem outstanding. Instead of Stickies these tabs can be moved around and fixed with little set screws.

Possibly these may fit on other Schmidt and Bender

They come on this new EXOS scope, which I have not seen yet, but maybe some one can tell me if they are as cool as they look.

That is pretty neat. The downside of this which includes scope tape is that it can't be changed on the fly. If zeroed the day before but the hunt is in the morning and temp is off by 30 degrees or pressure falls the markings/settings will be off and sometime by quite a bit. Or zeroed in the morning at 60 degrees at 2000ft and hiked up the hill to 4000ft and it's 80 degree 3 hours later the scope will be off my a lot! I've stopped using turret tape because of that. Strelok and other ballistic apps all have zero weather and current weather so the need for scope tape or fancy ballistic turrets really isn't there. I'd rather take that money and spend on a Kestrel 5700 and/or Sig kilo2400.

Qball,

what your're saying describes the problem with turret tapes very clearly. 👍🏼 Strelok saves us from all of that — I cannot believe how much I depend on that program....

On another note, I would add: Strelok and turret tapes (or adjustable markers) are not mutually exclusivebut they complement each other! 😊

(1) I zero the rifle with typical atmospheric conditions, and determine with Strelok how to mark the turret tape.

When I range the quarry/target, I go directly to the turret to dial my elevation.

➔ This provides a much quicker shot than pulling out Strelok in the field for each shot! Awesome!

(2) If I go to a different location with very different atmospheric conditions, I have not wasted my turret tape — I just can't use it under those conditions. So, I simply check Strelok for the exact elevation, and dial that, instead of following the markings on the turret tape.

(3) However, if there were TURRET BONNETS (each with a different turret tape) that quickly attach and detach from the turret, then I could be carrying a pocketful of these bonnets, each with a turret tape marked for a different shooting scenario: 😄

• Regular atmospheric conditions

• Mountain trip (high altitude)

• Medium domed pellet

• Heavy HP pellet

• Slug

• 1/4 power and wadcutter

etc. etc.

PS: I've planned to get those turret bonnets made, but with Corona still making a mess of Peru I haven't tackled the project.

Im using/testing a resettable custom turret bonnet/ from JD’s shop. Fits over the existing turret. Using the Scopewerks software for the tape. Tape has plenty of room for a second or even third set of zero data or marks. So far so good. Two zeroes on the tape for weather, one at 40 deg and another for 87. Feels cluttered but different colors and fonts help differentiate the two. Still tinkering with it, if i remember I’ll post a pic.

I would very much like to see a couple of pics!
👍🏼

How does the turret bonnet get attached/ removed?

Matthias

Its a uniform compression ring system Joe was tinkering with, he sent it to me w some parallax wheels. It has a slotted tension cover ring inside that fits over your turret and snugs down with a small set screw on top with a recessed nut inside.Just lose. The screw a touch to take off and readjust. Id like a wingnut or thumbscrew as a final version. The slots allow for positive movement and distribute the tension evenly. Theres enough play/flex to prevent overtightening as well. Its not the smallest of parts, still a prototype, 3d printed for that turret size. He set it up for Scopewerks tape to be used with multiple zeroes, hence the size ao its not crammed up and microprinted.
