Decided to repaint the stock on my Bully

I very recently decided to upgrade my Bully’s scope from the Monstrum G1 version that was a 4-16 x 50mm to the newly released G3 version, in a 6-24 x50mm. The big differences that appealed to me were larger zoom, dial type knob for illuminated reticle vs push button, a way way better reticle(both reticle and turrets are MOA), and the big part of why I wanted this scope upgrade was the locking turrets. The G1 could be reset to zero once dialed in, and it used grub screws to tighten down the turret caps to keep from accidentally turning. The Athlon Helos I recently put on my Wildcat has the exact same locking style turret as this new G3 version. I really am digging on the locking turrets on my Athlon, so the Bully had to have them also.

Monstrum must have changed out the FDE tone on their scopes. It seems closer to the Magpul color, so I had to have a custom paint can made up, and now all matches again. The tones between the G3 and the G1 were slight, but with the G3 mounted on my gun wearing the G1 tone, it was enough of a difference to bug me. Plus, I had some scratches and chips on the stock I needed to address(my son likes to shoot my gun, but could care less about where he bangs the stock up against, lol), so this change in color tone made it a moment of opportunity to start fresh.

one of the recent products I learned to use on a stock, to keep the areas that rest on gun rests from scuffing is the protective clear plastic that you put on iPhones and iPads. I had some left over from a palm pilot(remember those, lol) I once owned, so I applied that right at the underside of the stock where the stock meets the bottle.

i really like this G3 scope, man, the reticle lines are finer, and all the past reviews of Monstrum scopes getting hazy around the edges at larger zoom power are a thing of the past. Super clear image. My only negative on this is the illuminated reticle dial is so hard to turn. You almost need channel locks. I’m actually working out something with MK machining to make me a custom mini throw lever just for that dial.

Before i I painted the stock I mounted the scope and sighted everything in, then took my homemade swivel target out to 55 yards and aimed for the F ball. Hit it exactly where I aimed, tried for a second one, but due to the ball teetering side to side I missed the F just slightly to the right.

Im stoked about the upgrade and how the stock all came out.

Great color match. Is there enough left for the level?

John.....why...why did you ask me that?!! Now I’m gonna stare at that level and lose sleep, lol!! You must have what I’ve got, the OCD thing, to know how I’d react! I never once thought someone would ask me about painting the level!

I gonna use the black knobs on the scope to justify keeping the level black, lol. That’s my excuse.

Augie

Great color combo on the gun, but I have to say the tape on the target kills me.. I'd be scared to shoot in case I pulled one..

Art

ACWILSON, Ha, Ha! That tape is primarily meant for me, to remind myself to stay on point. Secondary intent is to cause undue humorous stress to others as they read it thru their scope in a friendly competition of target shooting, lol.

Which reminds me, I’ve got a buddy coming over this weekend and for sure we’re gonna be target shooting, so I have to pick up more Foosballs.
