I thought I’d sell my other scopes and fork out the rest of the money for a tier 1 optic to be used on all my rifles. While there wasn’t anything goin on in the classifieds here (I always go used) I went back to my old stomping grounds in the powder burning arena. The Schmidt & Bender PM2 is the gold standard, albeit they say it’s getting long in the tooth for today’s market. They go for around 2600$ used. So I was leery about that. Missed out on a Maven RS3, a Sig Tango 6 (with an ingenious internal level system btw) and was coming to grips with buying a March FX 5-40. As I was contemplating the cost of a mount since all my scopes were 30mm(the unimounts on a 34mm are around 350$ yikes!) another same FX scope popped up including a 30moa unimount AND an illuminated reticle for the same price as the first one I was looking at. Done! I had to get a weaver adapter for my Steyr H5 but I finally got it on and was able to see what all the fuss was about. The picture is incredible throughout the magnification range. And the reticle is like my beloved Sightron moa2. BUT it’s a ffp so at low mag the reticle is unreadable, so March made the lines thicker towards the outsides so it looks like a duplex. And let’s face it, at the lower magnification the rodent is pretty close so it’s totally usable. Speaking of, this scope parallaxes to 10 yards! Zero stop on the turret and they feel very precise with nice sturdy crisp clicks. Here’s the reticle on low and high.
Illumination is magic, by that I mean when it’s on and you have a bright background, it’s still black, but move to a shady area and it’s red. You could be aiming at a dark tree base and the center would be red and the outsides black. Amazing. Now I’ve loved a few scopes before, but it feels like I’ve made it to scope heaven. Oh and it’s weight is on par with the scopes I’m replacing too. Now I just need some time to zero the rifle so I can set the zero stop, probably the best system out there. You just take a quarter and screw the center of the turret down till it hits your zero elevation. No need to take the turret apart and finagle. Lots of wows getting to know this scope.
