Daystate RedWolf .177 with new GCU2 tune goes out the door w/ a smiling Marv!

Here is a picture of Marv, picking up his new Daystate RedWolf .177 with new GCU2 tune. In fact, According to Daystate UK, he might be one of (if not THE) first people to own the new Daystate Redwolf .177 with new GCU2 tune. The GCU2 tune allows the pellet count to go to 13 for the .177, and a bunch of other stuff.
Congratulations to Marv from http://www.TopGun-Airguns.com and all the other Daystate shooters!

A small correction about the photo. Why my gun might be slightly different is that it is a Standard version Red Wolf and not HP as stated. Joe Brancato was extremely helpful and made all the difference in his handling of my Red Wolf so I could get the onboard GCU upgraded to GCU2. He is top notch and professional in every way. A nod goes out to AOA also. I just started shooting it today and it groups under .1" for 13 shots at my 12-14 yard backyard range.

Here is a photo of my Red Wolf Standard power .177 with Hawke Sidewinder 6-24x56 scope and Huggett moderator. Also, some 39 shot groups(3 magazines each target) to test some pellets at 13 yards on Low setting. This gun is scary accurate. I have not adjusted the trigger since it came with a pull weight of 2.8 ounces from the factory. It is sublime.

To note what is new with GCU2 the battery is 11.1V vs 8.x and is 4 wire instead of 3. The older GCU1 had High, Mid & Low power as does GCU2. The older GCU1 counted a magazine down from 10. The newer GCU counts down from 5,7,8,10,11 &13 or OFF for single shot tray use. This takes advantage of the new 13 round self-indexing magazine. The newer magazine will allow you to double load if you are not careful. There is now a Sleep Timer before the rifle powers down. This can now be set to 15 mins, 30 mins, 4 hours and always on. This can shorten your battery life depending what setting you are on. There is now a Display Timer for the back light of the LCD display. This can be to 15 seconds, always on, or OFF. When the safety is ON SAFE, the display light will always go off after 20 seconds. There is now a shot counter that will count all the shots taken until you reset it. The gun with GCU1 or GCU2 still tells you of a Low Battery and Low Pressure when you need to fill the tank with air. The gun still pulses 4 times when your magazine is empty, if you have the magazine counter function On.

My chronographed numbers using JSB Exact Heavies 10.34gr. are 912 fps on High, 836 fps on Med and 746 fps on Low. (19.1 fpe, 16.05 fpe, 12.8 fpe)

This information is old hat to many of you but I had to do a lot of searching and reading before I got all of this figured out. Thanks a lot to Joe Brancato for getting me the perfect gun and to new friend Jay Tung for all his help.

For those interested in the Red Wolf's judicial use of air I just finished a test of how much air in psi (BAR) was used in my Red Wolf standard power .177 for shot strings of 39. 39 was chosen because it is 3 full magazines. I started at 226 BAR and finished when the gun reported low pressure, which was at 96 BAR. The gun was dead on through all 502 shots and POI did not change. My report is attached.

Push the safety to the right and then to the left to put the gun in Safe mode.

Open the cocking sidelever and pull back the trigger, maintaining pressure for five seconds. Release the trigger when the LCD information display indicates “Programming Mode 92RW11V” (The code will vary depending on the version of software installed)

Release and re-apply pressure to the trigger to scroll through the program modes

To select the desired mode, release the trigger and then use the trigger again to toggle through any additional options available within that mode. Once the desired program has been selected by releasing the trigger, close the sidelever and take the gun off safety. You will hear a clunk, which means the program change was accepted by the gun.

When I first got my gun it did not have the current GCU2 and I sent it back to AirgunsofArizona and they reprogrammed it and changed the battery to 11 volt. The autoactivating magazine feature is now gone and the gun uses the newer Self Indexing magazine-13 round capacity in .177.

ARI, they should program your gun so that you get all the extra features available with GCU2, like being able to pick different magazine sizes, back light on or off, and total shot count, etc. This will also require a 11.1 Volt battery. They should also disable the self indexing pin that cycles the magazine. This means that your older magazines won't work but I have heard about the indexing pin breaking from use and also the puff of air that is used to cycle the magazine wastes air. Daystate states that the Red Wolf standard .177 gets about 420 shots per fill. My gun, with the newer 13 shot self indexing magazine, now gets 502 shots per fill. I also use 10 round CARM magazines and since the new GCU2 allows for different magazine sizes, they work fine and are about a third the price of the Daystate mags.
