I removed the shroud from my Pulsar tonight with the idea to remove the barrel for easier cleaning. As it turns out, I'm not sure that is any easier with a Pulsar.
At any rate - when I removed the shroud, there was a damaged o-ring that fell out as the shroud was coming off. I apparently damaged this o-ring taking the shroud off. I believe this is the o-ring in the Daystate exploded diagram as #33 that apparently goes in front of or on #32 Bush.
I have a pack of Pulsar o-rings from Bagnall and Kirkwood but there wasn't an o-ring in there that seemed to fit properly either in front of #32 Bush or in the groove in the #32 Bush. The closest fit in the pack was too big to fit in the groove in the #32 Bush part and it also wouldn't stay put in front of the #32 Bush part. It's difficult to tell from the Daystate diagram where this o-riing actually goes: in the groove on the bushing or in front of the bushing. All other o-rings associated with the shroud/barrel assembly were in place and undamaged.
I reassembled the gun without that o-ring and tested it in my short indoor range (10 yards - it was after dark - so I used my basement range). Everything seems to work fine and I can tell no difference with this o-ring not installed.
So - what is the purpose of o-ring #33? Is it OK to continue without it? And - if I need it - can I purchase these at AoA? If I knew the size I could get it at theoringstore.com. But - I'm not really sure what it does or where it goes.
