Daystate Mk4 IS - where did they go

I have been fascinated by this gun since watching one go for a ridiculously low price about a year ago. I see them for sale in the UK at about 650-800 pounds (sorry, can't find the currency symbol.) It seems the battery maintenance is a bit of a chore but otherwise is an engineering marvel. The RedWolf is certainly it's equal. Still, I love the carbine and would love to hear owner comments. At least try to dissuade me before sending money across the pond. Thanks

I agree about the marvel of technology...for 2008. I have an MVT with the bottle instead of the slim tube. The reasons many people were averse to this setup was the chrono located at the end of the muzzle. It was prone to fouling from lead dust and mishandling during barrel cleaning. Also the wires running to the chrono sensor were really thin and flimsy, damaged easily. Add to that the initial problems with the computer forgetting the velocity settings which was later corrected by Daystate. However, a software update cost north of $400 by an authorized dealer.

It was a proprietary software that Daystate that would not allow access to, thus the software could not evolve as in open platforms. The software programmer equipment was not available on the market except for a few that slipped out of the hands of some dealers and were passed around to select insiders who had to keep then hidden from the public. May Daystate was worried that some UK or European owners increase the velocity and power into the uber-restrictive FAC limits. Or maybe that was a way to ensure "quality-control" of their rifles being serviced by authorized dealers only, at an extraorbitant cost.

By the time Daystate released a $400 programmer to the public around last year, an enterprising European hobbyist came up with a much superior drop-in replacement board for $220-250 that can be adjusted/programmed by the user. The board allowed for much more precise and reliable setting of the power curve resulting in more constant velocity and ballistics. After the initial excitement about the Daystate programmer many just walked away with a big yawn...to little too late...too much money.

The initial battery being NiCad was replaced by many with a Li-Po battery that was much lighter and had a longer effective life. However, the NiCad only need charging every 2,000 or so shots anyway.

I like my MVT and still marvel at the technology of 10 years ago that was ahead of its time. Lesson learnt from Daystate stubborn old-fashioned risk-averse proprietary corporate culture (void of any change and constructive input by the public), was FX's new line or rifle and accessories that revolutionized the industry. Now Daystate is slowly playing catch up...the "noble" UK way...with cautious elegance at a high-noon-tea style pace...

I agree, a laminate style with a better designed built-in chrono and user adjustable/upgradable settings could be a well-selling item. However, knowing FX, they will beat them to the punch again if FX decides to go the electric way for some of their lines of products.

Would this change the game for Daystate? https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/blog/2020/01/coming-soon-at-aoa-the-new-daystate-delta-wolf.html
