Daystate LC-110 FAIL

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. My LC-110 with about 17 hours run time just failed.

I was filling from 200 to 310 bar on an 88 cu ft. SCBA tank, and at about 280 bar the dipstick blew out of the compressor, and it sounded really "different" than normal, so I turned it off. There was also a lot of smoke (oil vapor?) coming out of the oil fill port. FYI, when I turned it off, the pressure vented out the oil fill line, not real fast but about 300 bar per minute. I let it cool off for an hour, plugged the hose, and started it up. Sounds OK, but much more than normal oil vapor, plus it went to about 270 bar or so and wouldn't go any higher. I e-mailed Coltri about getting a rebuild kit or at least some spare repair parts. We'll see. Its no longer under warranty, but I'll also e-mail Daystate and AoA and see what they say.

Now I'm thinking I should have just kept that two cylinder Tuxing that I modified (I gave it to my buddy Nick)... I'm going through at least two tanks of air every weekend shooting and practicing, gonna suck running to the dive shop every week... At least San Diego Divers is only about 20 minutes away, and they fill to 310 bar for $5 per tank. ;(

I have the 3 cylinder version (newer) and so far no problems but I'm a light user. I hate to here this Mike, as I know you know what you're doing. I hope it's a manageable fix that you can perform yourself. Let us know the outcome and the service you receive from the vendor. Everyone's objective is a reliable, durable, trouble free compressor.

I actually talked to NUVAIR in the LA area, and the guy assured me that they have all the repair parts for the Daystate LC-110 (Coltri MCH-3) available and in stock. Also, Coltri has many videos on YouTube and repair drawings for just about any repair you may attempt. I am waiting to take the compressor apart prior to ordering parts, since it might just be a valve, or it could be piston/rings. I'll know once I take it apart. It doesn't look very complicated...

I delayed repairing the compressor since I was spending all my airgun time practicing for EBR, plus I have four air tanks, two 66 cu ft and two 88 cu ft, and San Diego Divers fills them to 4500 psi for $5 each. So there was no hurry...
