Daisey 853

it should be a little over 500 but they are not all the same

the FPS spread is there claim to fame but is they are dry and need oil they will shoot slow and with a large spread

and it seems oiling once is good but twice is better

so the rifle could shoot in the 440 to 460 range and be normal

I have a 853 and when I got it, it shoot very slow and I was getting air on my hand and thought it was odd

it was missing a very small plug in the air chamber for lack of another name, I plugged with an grub screw, just a side story and the plug is not a part that can be ordered

hope that gives some insight

I have two Avanti 853's. Both were refurbished (new seals) purchased about 2yrs ago from CMP. I have kept them well oiled so the seals don't dry out. I do not have any 7.0 wad cutters but I did shoot 5 shot strings out of both guns with 3 different weights and types of pellets. Pellets: Gamo 7.56g pointed - RWS Meisterkugeln 8.2g wad cutters - JSB 8.44g domed. Here are the averages for those 6 - 5 shot strings:

Avanti #1. Gamo 462fps. RWS 444. JSB 448

Avanti #2. Gamo 464fps. RWS 428. JSB 455

I'm not sure why the RWS dropped almost 20fps in gun #2. Might be because the wad cutters are difficult to load in that gun because I have s scope on it. Gun #1 has a red dot and is MUCH easier to load. Both Avanti's perform the best with the domed JSB's. The JSB's have the least extreme spread and best shot to shot consistancy. Hope this is useful.
