D430L

Fourteen five shot groups at 25 yards. Scope slipped on the bottom middle target, last shot and I realized it after I shot the first shot on the third row. Cinched it back down and shot the remaining four groups, then the thunderstorm blew in and that was it for the day.

Sixty nine consecutive shots in a row under a dime if you discount the equipment malfunction. I absolutely love this Diana 430L. It can shoot better than this as some of the groups show.

Nice groups, especially for such an inexpensive rifle. Interesting on the scope slipping. I ran into the same thing on mine. My 430L had so much droop I had to get a drooper mount. I ended up getting a one piece that was adjustable, but it didn't have a stop pin. After a bunch of shots I noticed that I had to position my head farther back than was comfortable. Upon inspection I realized the scope was sliding on the rails even though I had it plenty tight. I fabbed up a stop pin for it and so far it seems to be holding well (fingers crossed), though I've heard the stop pin holes in the Diana rails just aren't all that sturdy. I find it funny that the gun doesn't feel like it has much kick, but it sure moved that scope with ease. I think that while the shot cycle seems to be pretty docile, it is quick and sharp and may be harder on scopes/mounts than one might first suspect. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's had that happen.

Nice shooting, what kind of scope and mounts?

Well I found an AEON refurb at Pyramid Air and before I found out what sort of reputation they have I bought it. The one I have has not been bad, maybe I got lucky. It isn't an SWFA but not bad. I do like the magnification 6x24 is nice. At 25 yards I can literally place the cross hairs anywhere I want on the edge of a pellet hole.

Wow that’s some incredible consistency and mighty fine shooting. That must have been a really satisfying shooting session! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

It was, Dave. Tomorrow or the next time I get it out, I am going to finish off that target. I think the rifle is an MOA capable rifle. In fact, I ran the target in the analysis software. I get 0.475 mils CtC for the average group. I don't think that is labeled correctly in the software because one group was .6 mils. Has to be the average for the 14 groups. That's all that really matters. The rifle is shooting to 1.6 MOA CtC at 25 yards. That's 0.42" CtC. It can do better if I just do my part better.

Great shooting and fantastic groups !!!

From your questions about the AA TX200HC in your other thread, Start shooting groups from Hunter FT position. Setting on a bucket or short stool, with crotch sticks or bipod of sorts, and turn the scope down to 16x.

20-35 yds is a great zero point since in Hunter class you can not adjust the scope for zero .

Then start moving the target distance to learn the trajectory.

Sometimes getting ready to shoot a match can be as much fun as shooting one, but does tend to be a lot more work.

¡¡¡Hola chicos!!!

Buenos objetivos !!!

Thanks very interesting !!!

I won an AEON 8-32 a number of years back and it has had some focus issues. It has largely collected dust. I recently bought a used diana 54 .22 and have had a bullseye mount... What the heck, why not see how long it'll last. I probably put a 200 to 300 rounds through it before swapping a peep sight on it. Here's some fun slowmo of the AEON with the mount. The trigger pull is about 15 seconds in:

Ayup, they sure will move. That sled is nice, isn't it? Even the little 430L moves the glass around unless you make sure it is nailed down pretty well. Oh I shot another dozen or so groups on that target page. So now it looks like I've got 25x5 under a dime on that sheet. I did not check it so might be a flier in there.

D430L must be a newer model. I have a Diana 460, that I had put a Williams Peep sight on that increased the sight radius by a substantial amount, I love the accuracy I can get out of a Peep sight and this setup. The D460 has a wide blade front sight, so I painted a Thinner front sight Vertical line than the blades width is, to wring more accuracy out of it.

The rifle is the one which was on sale at AoA back around Christmas time. It isn't the same frame as a D460 and it is only a 12 FPE rifle, not a magnum. I love my 460 but I like the 430 more. Just an absolute JOY to shoot. It is great when you KNOW the rifle you are shooting can out shoot you, even on a bench. I'm not that good a shot anyway.
