Custom FX Side-Shot Magazine fix

I have come up with a fix for the FX Side-Shot magazine for my particular needs and wanted to share.

In full disclosure, the magazine has worked fairly well with commercial pellets, but I also use cast pellets and they just didn’t feed 100 percent of the time. The .30 caliber aftermarket insert was from member Orion, ordered at the same time as my .25 caliber insert to save on shipping cost. These were ordered to fix slugs from flipping sideways. I haven’t shot any slugs in .30 caliber to know if I need this aftermarket insert or not. It does however have a thicker stop tab for better alignment of projectiles on exit. The original FX insert should work with this mod as well.

The fix I found was an addition of a metal washer out of my odds and ins drawer. I believe the washer is from a panel switch, the same as the plastic washer laid to the side. The metal washer just worked better for me. The 2x1mm O-ring lying next to it was just something I tried under the guide pin to raise the cover at the exit point. It did help, but not really 100 percent and was removed.

The metal washer dimensions are 17mm OD x 12.40 mm ID x 1mm thick. The magazine post is about 12.40mm. All rough number to be safe.

The problem I found that was really causing issues with the rotating insert was the spring. Once wound it likes to kick up one side of the insert causing the pellets to raise up on one side, which cause the pellets to also raise up and scrape against the lid. It didn’t matter how tight I wound up the spring or how tight I tightened the bolt, which really causes rotating issues being too tight.

The added washer over the post prevents the insert from raising up on one end and keeps the insert lying flat. I have been able to reduce the spring tension as well with this added washer.

This works for me 100 percent with every test I've done, so give it a try if having similar issues.
