Custom Big bores from my friend Mike Kobel

Steveoh- Did you ever get chrony #'s from your gun? Just curious-still waiting on snow melt to stretch mine out- got pretty good groups @ 65 yds. but want to see @ 100, but so far I am liking my .308

No sir. I have to head to the country or the range. Too loud and powerful to shoot in my back yard, and too loud to shoot in my friend’s backyard.

I did get a chance to clean the barrel in this thing. It was fouled by the previous owner and I’ve spent substantial time getting it cleaned out.

Clean your big bore barrels on a regular basis! Lube bullets! Think 50 shots, clean. Or if accuracy starts suffering, stop and clean.

I shot a grand total of three shots over chrony the other day in my backyard. I used a concrete form cylinder lined with egg shell foam to act as a huge moderator. Still loud but makes Noe of a big woooomp sound. I quit at three shots as I didn’t want a visit from the cops.

All .72 grain pure lead cast bullets sized to .257.

1. 3000psi fill 1003fps = 160 fpe

2. 3300psi fill 1030fps = 169 fpe

3. 3600 psi fill 1056psi = 178 fpe

Not quite what I was lead to believe, but my gauges could be off. I was also very close to the chrony and big bores like this generally need to be 10 feet+ away. Could be off.

Next time I’ll shoot some strings and see what kind of groups I can get at a 100 yards.

Few weeks back the poppet got out of whack and started leaking. Talked to Mike and he graciously suggested chucking it up and shaving off just enough to get a fresh seal. Worked perfectly!

Then I took the Citrus and my Texan Shooting and had a blast. The Citrus was just a total pleasure to shoot. It’s obviously making more power as the bark is substantial. I smacked steel out to 500 yards with both rifles. Of course that’s lobbing them at that distance with the trajectory of a mortar. Still it’s a hoot.

Up next I want to qualify both rifles for NUAH over at the GTA. No doubt both rifles will hold the groups.

I love this rifle. It is the best fitting one of the bunch.
