Crown & Impact Power Mod Kits by FX USA (Ernest Rowe)

Okay so I called Newman this morning to sort out some confusion over the FX Crown "Power Mod Kit" Ernest referenced in the "FX Crown .25 Maximum Velocity" thread. In reflection of that call I'll simply say that Newman is a very patient guy...

So...there is a difference between the Crown Hammer Mod Kit and what Ernest currently refers to as an FX Impact Power Mod Kit and those differences, per Newman, are as follows...

The FX Crown Hammer Mod Kit that one can purchase for ~$50 right now comes with three (3) parts, a fresh factory spring, a modified spring holder, and a heavier (90gm?) hammer weight..thats it.

What Ernest refers to as the FX Impact Power Mod Kit, coincidentally offered for ~$50 as well, is also three (3) parts BUT..as there is no spring guide in an Impact they substitute one of Ernest's larger bore Titanium Valve Seat  thats it.

The new over bored titanium VS is more or less on par cost wise as the modified spring guide in the Crown Hammer Kit and that's why the pricing is equivalent between the two kits.

What is going to be offered as both the FX Crown and FX Impact Power Mod Kits in 2019 will include those respective parts and an Ernest Rowe ported Transfer Port ("long gated" as he called it). That TP is to be substituted in place of the factory TP on the barrel and sleeve assembly. In any given caliber it's the same part for both the Crown and the Impact.

So right now, to bring a Crown Hammer Mod kit up to the proposed 2019 FX Crown Power Kit one needs to order Ernest's Titanium VS and a Ported TP. I'm getting a quote for those as I write and I'll post it when I get it.

To bring an Impact up to snuff with the proposed 2019 FX Impact Power Kit one would need to order a modified TP on the appropriate caliber.

As the parts required to make a "2019 Power Kit" differ for each model there will be a price difference and the 2019 prices for each kit are TBD at this point.

Thanks George for the updated info. I have an Impact .25 so have been watching as these mods are discussed and offered. Since I already purchased the titanium TP from Ernest off e-bay, (although I don't think it is ported as much as the current one) it looks like the only other thing that is currently available to upgrade would be a factory "fresh" spring and a heavier hammer. From what I have been reading about the Impact hammer and spring, they originally used a heavy spring and a light hammer to open the valve. Changing to a stock spring, however fresh it may be, and a heavier hammer should help get above the 180 bar limit with the original setup. Although we shall see if a heavier spring will also add to the increased performance available with the Huma extra high range regulator. I will be looking for an alternate spring so I can give it a try.

I don't think the cocking lever pin would fare well with more spring pressure. Adding hammer weight, elongating the barrel transfer port and opening up the pellet probe is the way to go is the way to go.

You're welcome of course, but in reality my efforts were as much for me to learn as it was to help with any confusion. Just to clarify something from your post...you said

"...I already purchased the titanium TP from Ernest off e-bay..."

Did you mean the overbored Titanium Valve Seat or is there actually an overbored Titanium Transfer Port as well? Just curious as Newman did not mention a "Ti TP" during my intense cross examination this morning... poor guy, can't imagine what its like to answer newb questions on a daily basis, has the Patience of Job that boy...

So when I originally started the thread about max velocity of the Crown, Ernest did mention everything included for the power tune kit. Unfortunately that was the 2019 version that won’t be for sale until Jan 3rf or 4th, as per my discussion with Newman. He and Ernest still need to come up with pricing. I’m just going to keep the same kit I ordered, the 2018 version and do the transfer port myself. Which leads me to the next point... all of these parts will be sold individually too. Either way, none of the kits will ship for 3 weeks. Ernest is on vacation until Jan 2nd or 3rd. Stoti

My apologies, I did mix up the two items. To clarify, I purchased a brass transfer port (from FX USA) to put on a new TJ's barrel, and Ernest ported it for me. The difference was minimal from what I could see with the naked eye, but he only charged me about $5 if I remember correctly. Then I did purchase a titanium valve seat from Ernest on e-bay.

Aha! Genesis! Thanks Stoti!

BTW Newman did mention they were out of the stock necessary to make the heavier hammer so that may add a bit to a delay even after Ernest returns.

Not genius but thanks. Just relaying what Ernest and Newman told me. Ordering either set is going to be about the same time since Ernest isn’t back until 2019. I just figured I’d leave my order as is and then let the guys on here direct me how to bore the transfer port to the perfect dimensions. If I screw it up, I can just order the part I would have had to order anyway. I appreciate the thread. Thanks. Stoti

Now that’s funny!!! Like I said, I’m no genius!!! I thought I could read though. I was hoping on some information about the transfer port too. I know it can/should be opened to 75-80% of the bore diameter with the hole being longer than wider(oval) but I would like a little more information than that from some of you “in the know” that have done it before. I’m not that worried about screwing it up because it shouldn’t be hard but if I do, I can buy a new transfer port...I don’t like to screw things up though and I know there are lots of very knowledgeable people on this site who have done this many times. So please help. My end goal is a 33gr. slug with a BC of .090 pushed to 975-1000fps.

I don't know about the other calibers but the .30 Impact TP at 7.1mm is over 92% right out of the box. The pellet probe is the greatest restriction.
