Crown continuum stock settings help

Hello all,

just received my replacement crown continuum for my second generation regulator problems and wanted tuning suggestions.

from Fx USA:

my current regulator setting is 125 bar but I think my hammer spring tension is way too high for the reg pressure.

With the 380mm barrel my fps is slightly faster on setting 5 compared to max pressure. Shooting 18.1g at 815-820fps.

just swapping to 700mm barrel without any changes the 18.1are moving at 950-960’s.

hammer spring adjustments don’t start to drop the fps until I drop the power wheel to setting 4.

any recipe suggestions?

thanks,

hegshen

What settings do you have you regulator, hammer spring and power wheel set to for those numbers?
I chatted with the guys at Utah airguns and they gave me the impression that the Max velocity out of the 380mm barrel was about 820fps. That seems to be my experience so far. Thoughts?

Yep, I would like to understand as well. Mine maxes out around 865-870.

My Crown Continuum in the 22 cal 380mm barrel config can push the 25gr JSB Monsters to 940FPS. I have shared the details in this thread: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/my-verdict-on-the-fx-crown-continuum/

The 380mm pellet liner doesn't shoot the Monsters well at all. It's just not compatible. I contacted FX to see if they had any plans or prototype 380mm barrels that would be compatible, and Newman Buck responded to me saying the Crown C doesn't have the power, to which I described my numbers. He later replied saying they might have an alternative liner in the future, but I wouldn't hold out for one. I'd probably test a TJs, my 25 cal with the 1:10 shot real well when I chopped it down to 18" 👍

Were you getting those numbers from a stock continuum or after your mods? I’m not planning on doing any mods at this time, so was looking to see if anyone one would be willing to share their tuning experience to get numbers where the 18.1g are moving at 850+ with the stock setup and the 380mm barrel.
From my limited experimentation my gun seems to top out around 820fps even with a reg pressure increased to 130bar.

I maxed out the hammer wheel at 130bar but the highest velocity was still about 820fps. It achieved this velocity early on in the adjustment of the hammer spring and despite the increased tension no improvement in velocity.

these were the same numbers I got when the reg was set at 125bar from the factory. So, despite increasing the reg pressure (albeit very little) and the spring tension, I wasn’t seeing an even the slightest increase in velocity, which makes me think the 380mm barrel tops out at 820fps due to its short length and not my adjustments. Thoughts?

I'm certain that my Continuum was able to achieve at least 35FPE with 18 grain pellets with the 380mm barrel before I installed the Ti VS and hammer weight. I'm not sure if that 35FPE was before or after I had elongated the TP on the barrel inlet.

Post a pic of the transfer port on your barrel's brass inlet - I once received a .30 barrel kit with a brass inlet for a .177. It was comically tiny, like an April fools joke - except it was in September. Secondly, make sure the transfer port restrictor wheel is set to .25/.30 or whatever the max is

Leave it like that, if you decrease hammer spring tension too much, what happens is that the fps of the first shots will be below average when you take the rifle after a break and you will have to make several dry shots to get the average speed again.....

I’ve left the regulator set at 130bar and adjusted the hammer spring tension with the power wheel at max shooting at 815-820fps. Velocity doesn’t start to drop until two clicks from max power. My power wheel appears to have a two additional detents compared to my gen 2 crown.
It’s like I’ve got a setting “0” and a setting “6” between the min and max settings. Meaning I have an extra stop between min and 1 and 5 and max.
looks like my transfer port is the appropriate size because when I leave my settings unchanged and put on the 700mm barrel the 18.1 grains are shooting in the 950’s on max.

I reset the hammer spring to a 2mm gap between the hammer spring adjuster and the rear of the opening/slide area. Then ran it through the chrony and shot a minimum of 5 pellets over each number/alpha range. This is shooting the AA 18.0gr pellets. Running very close to 894 FPS on 25/30 caliber air setting. Shot a few over 900FPS, but on average 894 with the380mm barrel. This is with the regulator showing 135 BAR (think I'm getting some creep over a long over night period though).

I also had opened up the barrel port and smoothed the edges as shown on one of the AGN posts. Very easy to do.

I'm gonna put it to paper tomorrow to see which setting works best for accuracy, since I have a basis average for each setting to go by for FPS now.
