Crosman Mark I Auction Buy

I have owned a couple of "adult" airguns (RWS springers) for many years, but have just recently become more interested in the hobby and recently added my first PCP rifle (a Marauder) to my collection. Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to bid on and purchase my first CO2 gun at a local auction, a Crosman Mark I. The pistol is in very nice shape and the first few shots were fine, but then a leak developed. Due to its age, I expected it to need seal replacement anyway, so this was not really a surprise.

Even though I am highly mechanically inclined, I would prefer to send this away for a rebuild so I don't do it any harm. I have sent an email to Mac1 inquiring about service and possibly some internal upgrades, but have not yet received a reply. Has anyone else had difficulty reaching Tim at Mac1, or is there someone else you would recommend for servicing this pistol? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I've watched some of the teardown videos, and you're right, not complicated, but when I see the valve stem being trued up on a lathe, and pictures of damaged piercing pin mechanisms due to the use of improper tools, I thought I would just ship it out and maybe get some minor internal upgrades at the same time. I didn't try oiling it (the leak was coming from the breech), but my thought is that oil would just be a band-aid for the issue of old, dried up seals.

I'm not afraid to take things apart. I have a degree in automotive machine, wrote service manuals for GM trucks in Detroit, and have traveled the country as a crew member on a dirt late model race car. Still, I don't consider myself a gunsmith and my thinking is that it would be easier to have this done correctly so that the pistol can provide many years of trouble-free service down the road.

I had my best luck with Mac1 , just call him up. He re-built my SW 78G , and hot rodded the valve so I get much more velocity. Also , you might give Steve at Pomona Airguns a call. He has been working on air guns almost his whole life. He re-built my FWB 124D to like new condition. I had a Crosman Mk1 stripped and painted , and re-sealed by Airgunsmith up in North Dakota. Fantastic job , but prepare to wait.

I shipped the pistol out last Wednesday to Mac1, and it was back in my mailbox today (Wednesday). One week turnaround from Ohio to California and back again! By the time I found time to shoot tonight it was already dark, so I took a few shots wearing my headlamp. Not for accuracy, mind you, but just to see how it shoots, and I am very pleased with the work that Tim performed on the Mark I, especially the trigger feel. Can't wait to try it out in the daylight and get it sighted in...Thanks for the quick service, Tim!
