Crosman 2240XL?

Stumbled across this today on Pyramyd Air’s website. It’s not on Crosman’s website though or anywhere else for that matter. A PA exclusive? Looks interesting.

well if you take a base 2240 and add a long steel breech and then a 1/2-20 adapter in the mix the price is fine or very good but you have no sight and even if you mount the rear LPA sight what are you going to do for a front sight

so is it special in any way, yes and no you can make one yourself

now if it had a 10 inch LW barrel and sights and a 1720 trigger assemble for X amount of money more then you would be talking

it like they had a good idea and someone yelled squirrel

No this pistol sold as is would be best used with red dots for scopes. 
however given the cost of this pistol I would opt instead for ordering a 2300KT or 2400KT from Crosman’s custom shop for a starting price roughly the same as this pistol. You’ll get a slightly nicer pistol. I would then trick it out to my liking. 
If open sights where a must for you (I prefer them on pistols over optics also) a DonnyFL adaptor for the Crosman barrel will accept a fiber optic front sight like the one on the Discovery. For a rear sight an LPA MIM or a number of Williams rear sights can be used. I’d probably use the WGRS-54 with a square notch myself. TKO makes a .875” 1/2”-20 UNF LDC. This is the smallest diameter LDC with threads that I’m aware of and will give the clearance to use the open sights.

Mine came a few days ago. Has the new style grips, the typical gorilla trigger but seems of pretty good build quality compared to my 2300s. I also got the plastic baffle for a NP2. I had the aluminum tube to complete the can. At the same time I also ordered wood grips off ebay and a super sear. So far so good. I'm sure it will be fun as soon as I finish the grps.

Nice! I've also used those Supersears from eBay in my 2400KT and 1300KT. Coupled with the adjustable spring it makes for a fairly decent trigger. Not a 1701P trigger but still fairly nice. One thing I wish Crosman would do is make their steel breeches ambidextrous. I make do with the right handed bolts, but ever since I got a 1701P I really like having the bolt on the left side as a right handed shooter. That's one thing I did like about my old 1377 rear cocker that I've had since the 80's is that the barrel breech cover was operable with the left hand and you could load, pump and cock the gun without taking it out of your shooting hand. Yeah, I know there are some left handed breeches out there but I don't see why Crosman couldn't just machine both sides of the breech so the bolt could be on the shooter preferred side. I don't know that it would bother me that bad if one side of the breech was open when not used. oh well, I suppose there is some measurable costs savings in not doing that.

My 2240XL came today and I have to say I'm impressed. Haven't had one in decades. Trigger is heavy, but not awful. Nice consistent (and decent - 500 fps with the Predator GTO leadfree 11.75gr) fps shot to shot. Haven't had a chance to do anything for accuracy yet.

Of course I've already spent more on customizations than the gun already. They'll be coming in the next couple of weeks. Nice wood grips, hammer spring adjuster, some trigger upgrades. 

So my one critical comment - the grips look like nothing in the picture. Mine are fluorescent poo brown. I've never seen a nice shiny brown quite like it.

That’s the way a 2240 should come. I’m sure they know that 80% of 2240 orders placed also include a red dot scope but it would be nice to have a front sight option. It’s a nice offering. I’m sure they are testing the waters.

I added a 1701p trigger group and that is probably the best improvement. I wish there were a way to easily install a front sight, but I knew about that going in, so just have a nice red dot and still have a lot of fun with it. A Donny FL moderator quitens it a bit also.

Slightly off topic, but I got my Crosman rifle stock for my 2240xl today...took only one minute to install it. Still waiting for my Red dot sight to come Fedex...should come sometime between Tuesday and Thursday, so I can't tryout my weapon yet.

Back on topic...if Crosman comes out with a front iron sight for this pistol, I will certainly order both the front and rear sights, if only to try them out.

Having bought this without any further toughts, I can definitely say that you should stick with the 2240 and buy a steel breach instead.

The muzzle on the XL can't be removed giving everyone a headeache on how to put low profile iron sights without having to cancel your family's christmass...
You can turn a 2240 into a 2240XL
But you can't turn a 2240XL into a 2240 without buying a new barrel and iron sights.

Question : Does anyone have tried a .410 or .12 gauge clip-on sight like this one on a 2240xl, would that works ?
