Crosman 180 Receiver Sight

Needed a receiver sight for my new to me Crosman 180, so I created one. Piece of Aluminum bar, Williams WGRS-54 sight and way too much time on the lathe, mill and drill press. But it works.

Excellent concept and execution. Have spent the last two days experimenting with various options for sighting alternatives with a 180. Your receiver sight makes a lot of sense.

All of my efforts involve optics or red dot sights which limit access to the breech. An aperture sight is perfect for a relatively, low power system. The enhanced accuracy and ease of use together with the long sight plane and non- interference with the loading process create a complete package.

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, really nice work! I bet that works great.

I just adopted a 180 from a friend. The butt plate is broken and the front sight is missing. Like alot of old unused guns you pick up, it came with 2 pellets loaded in the barrel that never found their way out. Probably needs to be resealed. Some people take dieing plants, some hoard cats, I'm finding I can't so "no" to a free airgun in need of attention.

Hi Jonah,

If you have the time and would be interested in doing it, I would pay you to make another exactly like it. Cost of materials plus labor and shipping. It would really help me out if you could do it, but I’ll completely understand if you don’t.

I was given a 180 that was neglected and needing work (also missing a few parts). After a complete breakdown, extensive cleanup, re-seal and oiling, application of new steel blueing, sanding down the stock and application of about 20 layers of TruOil, and reassembly, it fires very well. I am still missing the front sight post (the rear is present but it is so tiny and odd that I can’t imagine the sight being any good even with the front portion added.

I was able to source a new push through safety, bolt assembly, and trigger spring, but haven’t been able to find an original front sight post after extensive searching. So I am now looking to go another route just so I can enjoy using this thing after all the work I put into it.

I’ll try attaching a pic of it if possible. Please let me know (maybe direct message) if you are able and willing to do it. Thx!

EODI;
When I made that receiver sight mount for my 180, it was all trial and error as I went along. I didn't even make a drawing of it at the time. To be perfectly honest, if I got another 180 I wouldn't even make one for my self.

As far as the front sight goes, contact Mike Baker ([email protected]). He has a lot of Crosman parts and may just have a 180 front sight. His prices are always very reasonable.

I ended up using a Ruger pistol front sight to be able to match the receiver sight for height. While I can machine sight dovetails, I would not have done so on my 180 because I normally only cut short ones and would not take a chance machining long ones on my gun. Also, the 160 front sight will work on the 180, but it is taller than the 180 front sight and you may have trouble sighting in. I had to lower the Ruger front sight to work on my gun.

I have seen sights made by others to work on the 180, but I will have to research my records and see if I can find the information. I will try to find the information and let you know.

You could look into Mac1 about him machining the dovetail grooves.

Hey,

So unfortunately Mac1 passed away, so the entire business is no more. I will definitely reach out to that contact you shared with me. My only concern is that if I can get an original or similar front sight post, it still might be difficult to aim due to the rear sight aperture (or it is called. It is TINY, and the Notch where you line up the front post in the dead center and flush at the top so minuscule that I just cannot see it being useful. I’ll take a closer picture of it just so you can see what I mean. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Do you know any reputable/reliable servicing guys (resealing, troubleshooting, tuning, etc…)? I need to get my Crosman 600 sealed and tuned (not looking to dismantle it myself with the number of parts and complexity.). I also have a gorgeous MK 1 that even after resealing and everything it won’t work properly.. It fires the pellets but at very low pressure and at the speed of a nerf gun toy.

Where are you from? I’m in NJ. Hope to hear from you soon. Chers

I spoke to Tim last week and he was back at work in the shop. He was in a bike accident a few months back and that took him out for a while.
Really? Someone said he died, and his site was down so I took their word for it. Well that’s great news.

In addition to the stuff I mentioned, I have two Mark 1’s, one that is working flawlessly, and the problematic one I mentioned before. I was thinking of trying to get one converted into a MK1 LD.

Mike Baker should be able to fix both guns. He would be my choice if I couldn't do it myself. The MK's are not that hard to do, I never done a 600.
