CPHP's & Dome's How Do They Group In Your Guns?

I did a comparison test with Crosman Premier hollow points, domed ultra magnums and JSB 18's using my Taipan Veteran .22

standard\LW barrel. Each group is 10 shots off my knee not benched @ 25yds. I shot the Crosman's back to back but the JSB's required 360 degrees of heavier HSA, to achieve 870fps, same as the Crosman's. I've long since known JSB's shoot better in all of my guns but for the money just used for informal target and plinking I'm pleased with their consistancy in this gun, the domes work quite well in my Streamline and the 7.9 .177's do well in my Wolverine, how do the Crosman's work for you and what do us use them for?

Well, let it be known that I am still annoyed you shoot so well off your knee! 😁

With that obligatory item out of the way, Crosman pellets work well enough to keep me buying them for casual shooting in the back yard at 25 - 30 yards. They seldom compare to JSB as favorably as your target, however. Groups seldom under 1/2” at that distance, even with the boxed variety. Usually closer to 3/4” on average (2 - 3 MoA). Back in 2012 - 2013 when I was just getting into airgunning, they fared considerably better on average than in recent years so that thought continues to intrude each time a flier ruins a nice group. Still, they are decent for the money so I always keep a healthy supply around for plinking. The batches that fail to meet that standard get consumed in chrony / tuning / break-in efforts.

Targets only here. Since I moved here (which was 10yrs ago), most of my shooting is at 55y, 75y or 100y. Because of that, I adjust and sight in my guns accordingly. At those distances and those power levels, the JSB's almost always win. Now on the flip side, both the Crosman pellets you mention do great for my winter shooting which rarely goes past 30y and save me some cash. At the longer distances, I do see a difference, I just rarely walk out to to the more distant targets Jan-March. I did just hang steel this year so maybe I'll test the Crosman stuff again.

14.3gr CPDs in .22 out of my Concept Lite at 865 FPS, out to 75 yards I can shoot the butt of an ant. Absolutely love them. Back before the craziness I'd get 12 tins from AGD. I'm one of those folks who are of the belief that one pellet type is ideal so it's all I've shot out of my Concept. Easy to know the pellet and how it behaves in the various conditions if there's only one type you're shooting. Plus they're inexpensive.

Out past 75 yards it's hit or miss. The seem to really like 860-880 FPS. My Commander was shooting them at 965 FPS and my Concept at 865 FPS. They always preferred that range out of both weapons. I think they tend to destablize at the faster speeds.

You know, I havn't tried the crosman domes in any of my guns. I can say that the chp are not too great (greatly varying head sizes, and weight) . My hatsan sortie does pretty well with them (could be a little better) and my nova star with unchoked tj barrel shoots them hole in hole. I used to size them down for a very tightly choked LW barrel, and could get them hole in hole. But I've since chopped that barrel, and put a lighter choke on it. They shoot OK ish from that barrel now without resizing. Occasional flier. My HW does not particularly care for them. And my fx sends them careening all over the place 🤷‍♂️

Great fodder for the sortie. And love that my Novastar shoots them so well

I've been eliminating some pest squirrels lately and have used both the pp700 and HW44 for the task. Both shoot the CPHP as well as the JSB's out to 20 yards. Beyond that, no specific comparison since I keep my pistol shots at about that range. But since I generally shoot airguns at relatively short ranges only (rarely to or beyond 50 yards) the Crosman pellets are great for my use. I doubt that the Crosman pellets would be as consistent as the premium brands at longer ranges and as mentioned above each gun/barrel will likely shoot better with some pellets than others.
