Coyote Hit Hard! Need advice! HELP!!! VIDEO

Thanks JWRabbit. Yea, I think now it was high. I went out two more times looking for it., no luck. I it must have landed high. I was too worried about range and was thinking if it was further it would land in the heart.

I have had a thermal spotter in the past. I'm probably going to buy another. Much easier than always moving to gun around.

Crossman99, Queeque, dogs are a really investment. I've seen several bear hunting dogs attack children. Not sure if a coyote dog would do that.

Cornprone, yes my new .357 will be more suited for killing, even if the shot was slight missed places. I'll keep every one updated.

I've heated up potatoes and apples yo practice headshots. Not enough precision with it. With that budget thermal only vitals. That's why I choose heavy solid boattails. He to the are to the left. At 1:38 he starts his death circle. I would have had him if it noticed it in the video it at the time I was looking for him.

I don’t know the POI of your rig but it seems the shot was a little high for a lung shot. Although I may be wrong. It does appear to be doing a death circle. Hopefully you find it tmrw and get yourself a nice pelt. Good luck

agree

Hand held Thermal is one of the best things you can get for night time hunt.

With that I hit a coyote recently similar placement as yours with 357 and tracked for 5 hrs and lost her. So I feel your pain.

Horrible feeling... :(

Won't happen again. Going back out to the range over the next few weeks.

I hit 3 yotes just off my property with a 22rf rifle that ran off, all were chest shots inside 100Y. That was the end of my experimentation. I started using the proper tools which was a 17 Remington before and now is a little 20 cal centerfire going 3750 fps with 32 grain vmax.

Also I shot a yote in the backbone offhand at 125Y with the 17R, grabbed the 30 fpe air rifle to finish it off and to be quiet about it since I have neighbors, and the pellet didn't penetrate the skull until I was right up on the animal???!!! I had hit the head at 35Y, then 20Y, and neither penetrated??? I felt pretty crappy about the whole thing.

If I were to try an air rifle again using pellets it'd be much more powerful than previous and it would be head shots only and inside 50Y. Or in the hundreds of fpe and using hollow points.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yea, I upgraded to a .357 with 93 grain NSA hollow points. I'm shooting them at 185fpe. I will be doing penetration testing soon with this. I'm going to make sure it penetrates two or three coyotes. I'll be sharing my experience with this. Thanks
