Corona Blues. I'm Saving what Air I have Left.

5. I guess I might start looking into saving for a reliable and dependable compressor to be totally independent. The question is which one will it be in a time of crisis? Gas or electric lol? They both have pros and cons.

Have you considered the trifecta of success and savings?

Purchase a gasonline [sic] fueled generator so when gasoline is available you can create electricity and need to pump air. Purchase a separate air compressor which runs from an electric motor to run from the generator. Repair a working hand pump to pump the air compressor in reverse to power the generator. Just don't forget the Tuxing Gold filter or $filters or you'll end up with water saturation in the gasoline created from the hand pumping process.

Surely it works this way. :)

I’m using a base model Shoebox Max for 5 years now and only ever needed to replace a belt and pulley which is a 5 minute job, other than that’s its been a little gem, continuously topping off a 72cuft SCBA tank at least 3 times a month on average sometimes more. People continue to overlook these little units because there older and have slower fill times but I think that’s how there able to last so dam long!!! Give it a thought.

I've always thought highly about the Shoebox compared to the Yong Heng even though it's slower. I guess maybe I've heard too much problems reported about the Yong Heng.

I like this. You make sense.

Heads up, but I just read an old tread somewhere on the rebuild kits from Hill for the MK3 and MK4. There’s one o ring, which I believe is an odd colored one, and the largest, there’s something about that particular o ring in that it lasts way longer than any you can find to replicate it. On that tread I read, others have tried sourcing the same size o ring, and it failed way too soon, every time. In the end, they bought the entire kit from Hill due to that one “special” o ring.

No one in that tread could figure out the make and durometer of that particular o ring.

Just a heads up, as you mentioned heading to oringsandmore.

Thanks. I came across one of those threads which mentioned odd sized o-rings while doing my research.

I have a MK4 rebuild kit, let me know if you want me to dig for it and measure the o-rings (theres 5-6 in this kit IIRC).

Also, having rebuilt my pump once already: DON'T TAKE IT APART COMPLETELY!!! You can rebuild it in sections (the guide that came with my pump kind of sucks in that regard)

Thanks for the offer but I'll just order the kit and do the measurements for future reference. Thanks for the advice on rebuilding it in sections.

👍🏼
