Convince a gun club to do field target matches

Lol not exactly. Those are to keep things from getting in. I’m talking about keeping the pellet from flying out for safety.

Muzzle caps are designed to keep stuff from going into the barrel like water and dirt. They were not made to stop a pellet or a bullet. You can possibly design a thick rubber or plastic coated cylinder magnet that goes at the end of the barrel but it will still not stop a pellet.

I think several layers of material about an inch thick wrapped in leather that would slide on the barrel would stop a pellet.
I saw one made of pvc with a rubber band holding it on. Not sure if it would stop a pellet but I’d give it a 50 50 chance.
I’m looking at joining a shooting range and pitching the idea of holding airgun matches. They would freak out seeing airguns carried on gun totes when people would pick it up and turn around facing away from the shooting range. That’s why some places require you carry your airgun in a carry case. Not sure if that would stop a pellet as well.

I tried this at my club in Central VA. I even had PB members that formerly shot FT. They pooh, pooh'd airrifles. They said 'airrifles would be the last thing they have in the club'. They're an NRA club and I explained that even the NRA has AP and AR events (10M though), and they wanted nothing of it. So, my interest to setup FT there died after that meeting.
As hard as you try, sometimes it can be an uphill battle.

Update: The gun club approved the air gun field target events but they have not approved the wooded location as proposed. This year they will have the field target matches on a police gun range 30 yards wide and 110 yards long. It's a start anyways. They want to get kids interested in the shooting sports and they think this is a good starting point for them.

Another point. Open rifle carriers might not be allowed because the trigger and muzzle are exposed. Only fully enclosed rifle cases will probably be allowed.

You have to start somewhere. It would not stop me from attending although a bag is a hassle compared to a box. At least for HFT
