Considering a good (1 or 2 MOA) red dot, thoughts?

Friends,

I shoot for plinking, pests, and targets out to about 50 yards and am considering a red dot optic. Perhaps the Trijicon RMR or an Aimpoint T1 micro.

For those who have used red dots with your airgun, do you have any observations (pros and cons)?

Thus far, I've only used 3-9 and 4-16 scopes with no illumination but want the extra visibility of an illuminated reticle for low light and the simplicity of the red dot for fast target acquisition.

Here are two links to the optics I'm considering (though I'm open to other suggestions):

Thanks!

I routinely take the little scope off my Bantam and put a red dot on for fast shooting and low light. Love it ! fast light accurate out to 50 yards before dot gets too big. It is a 3 moa cheap little unit. I have an astigmatism so the dot is blurry around the edges but it never hurt accuracy. I have really seriously thought about one of the newer 3x or 4x red dots now on the market. I think having a little magnification would be really nice.

My son bought one of the newer Bushnell magnified units and it is awesome and not very expensive. Some day when he's not looking.........

Have you considered taking a look at the Trijicon MRO? It has a wider field of view compared to the Aimpoint T1 Micro. I have both but prefer the MRO because of the field of view. They are currently mounted on two of my AR15s'. The good thing about the Aimpoint T1 Micro is that it has better mounting options compared to the MRO. You can mount them lower on a rifle if you later decide to use it for a PB. If you decide to pick one up, take a look at LaRue Tactical. It's cheaper to buy it from them and it also comes with their quick detachable, return to zero mounts.

The Burris Fastfire3 in 3 moa is a really nice dot, I bought one for dad for his 22 for action pistol, and then promptly put one on my Crosman 1701P and really like it. At first I wasn’t happy with the tiny adjustment screw heads but got over it.

In the late 90’s Ultradots ruled Camp Perrys Bullseye Nationals. They built first class dots in the early days and I imagine they still may today. I still have one on a 45 BE gun. I had not seen a 1 moa small pistol type reflex dot, perhaps I have been searching in the wrong lane. Maybe I need to look harder, as recent as 5 years while teaching on the LE ranges I never thought I’d embrace the dots like I have. I think at a few months from 60 it’s just easier to enjoy shooting with the dot than worry about holding my progressive lenses right for the sights.

Good luck, let us know what you come up with.
