Confusion On HW100 Thumbhole FAC Barrels

I have been looking at the HW100 Thumbhole FAC full-length rifle. I have eliminated the carbine. I currently have a Sporter FSB fully shrouded model which is a very nice overall size/length which is a tad over 44". I basically wanted the same gun with Thumbhole stock. Then I see since then the manufacturer started putting on moderators with more of a free floating barrel configuration. I read the moderator works excellent and does not affect accuracy.... OK so far.

Problem is when I started really looking at one I can't find any specifications of overall length of the Sporter Thumbhole FAC gun with moderator. Manufacturer site shows and gives specs for 12ftlb versions only which are shorter barrel. Every site seems to only talk barrel length, which appears to be 600mm for FAC. Questions are is that with or without the moderator and what does this make the overall length of the gun with moderator?

The FAC Thumbhole full length on the AOA website starts to look like a fishing pole it gets so long. Nobody else's full-length rifles with moderators seem to be so extra long looking. Do they have longer stocks or shorter barrels? The FSB shrouded Sporter versions seem to be almost non-existent in stock in US. Has manufacturer stopped shipping those to US? Can anyone clarify?

I thought I would go carbine on this one too, however after reviewing them they don't seem to make sense. With the moderator the barrel length starts to become what a standard full length Sporter is with most guns. The shot count in FAC seemed way too low for my target shooting. Maybe OK for hunting. There also seemed to be challenges with getting longer air tubes and other things because of moderator and barrel band.

Best I can tell, if you want FAC power level, your choices are a 410mm or 600mm barrel, in carbine or full length rifle, respectively. My K (carbine) models are both 410 mm, or about 16". If you are comparing the FSB model to the moderated version, you have to add around 7" for the moderator. So, my carbine barrel, with silencer, is about the same length as the full length rifle FSB model. When you add the silencer to the 600mm barrel version, then you're looking at the surf rod length models.

You need to order a FAC UK type HW100 configuration to get it looking perfectly proportional likely from KRALE if you don't want the barrel that requires you to have 2 different zip codes..

It appears that Thumbhole Sporter is at least 48 1/2 inches long with moderator!!!! Krale lists the Thumbhole Sporter FSB as discontinued which makes sense. I do see those other models mentioned in UK stores but this is turning into a giant hassle and not worth it anymore. I am going to explore different directions but may come back to the carbine and just suck it up on the shot count just to stay on the same HW100 platform.

I may have to consider the Daystates, AA, FX or even Brocock. Maybe if they dumped the price some on one it would seem more appealing. I am not a Bullpup person but I kind of like the Taipan Veteran Long or Cricket Carbine but I would have to save more to get into one of those right now. I just can't get too close to $2000 for an airgun or the wife will have a heart attack. We need too many other things.

Rob, that sounds about right on length. My carbine is around 41" OL, I think, with the silencer. I have a Veteran Standard, and I would put its build quality comparable to the Weihrauch. It is simple and robust, might be the most durable of the group. I have an FX Royale 400 and Daystate Revere that might be good choices for you also. If you can accept the carbine's lower shot count, the K model laminate with adjustable comb is a heck of a nice rifle, and may be the best value. The magazine system is the best in the business, accuracy does not suffer at all, I would not even buy a single shot loader. If I had to come up with a gripe (and it's a small one), depending on your cleaning method, you might need to remove the barrel. The good news, that is a very quick and easy process, believe I can have mine off in one minute. And, since the O ring breech seal remains in the action, you don't have it to worry with in the cleaning process. Good luck with your decision.

I recentlly bought a .22 Cricket mini carbine and really like it. It's not to heavy and shoots great.
You might also consider a hw100 bullpup. I purchased a .177 knowing the shot count and power would both be low. Wound up ordering a longer barrel and a Ratworks air tube. Needless to say I've got a lot of $$$$ invested but I really like it now. Still around 30" with a Huma compact moderator.

I once developed a new shroud and LDC for my HW100 FSB FAC.

Total length became less than the original length without LDC.

The sound became as low as with original shroud and original LDC.

I have the carbine and installed a titanium air tube and it doubled my shot count.

What tube did you get and were there any problems with the barrel band or getting close to the moderator? Anything not drop in about the installation?

I got the kit from hw100tuning in the UK. No issues with with the barrel band. I know it’s slightly longer than the stock unit but my carbine has a longer barrel so no issues on my end. I want to swap out for the shorter barrel someday and I don’t think there would be any issues. I’ll try to put up some pictures up when I get home. The kit has a new regulator so you can go up to 250 bar and it increases your plenum volume. It is a drop in kit with no drilling or grinding. Not the easiest but not that bad either.
