Are you a fellow Big Bore Airgunning Deer Hunter? Do you live in a cold weather climate? This is a MUST HAVE tool in your arsenal! I have to admit something. When Deer season comes around, I get so excited and in such a hurry, I tend to be quite mistake prone and often make stupid decisions. Sometimes expensive ones.
I wrote Santa a letter telling him about some issues I ran into during Airgun Deer Camp this year. If you live in a cold weather climate - THIS IS A MUST READ! Santa Claus visited Airgun Depot for a last minute gift for this airgunner! Check out my new Air Venturi Nomad II 4500 PSI Compressor for remote fill ups!
If you are a big bore airgunner / hunter like myself, you know the value of a good air source. For the first year when I got into this sport, I was in my local SCUBA shop 3 times a week. It was great to be able to support local business, but the 5 mile round trip each time was getting annoying.
I decided to invest in my full size Air Venturi 4500 PSI Compressor to fill my external tanks. This has been the perfect solution for range days where I just fill my tank in the garage - toss the tank in the truck and head to the range.
Then hunting season came around and we got a foot of snow on Halloween! So we have a long winter ahead of us here in Michigan. We have had freezing temperatures almost every day since. For Airgun Deer Camp we loaded up the big compressor and headed out to our hunting location for a full week.
Mistake #1 - This thing is HEAVY and not a great option to bring with you on trips. I pulled a muscle in my back lifting it into the back of my truck.
Mistake #2 - I didn't swap out the water reservoir when the white stuff started flying. Every year I've owned this compressor, I have moved it inside the house to the basement where I fill my tanks in the winter season. I totally forgot about the water coolant and I blew an o-ring when the internal lines froze. I am lucky I didn't blow one of the metal lines! It was super easy to loosen the bolts to reseat the o-ring, but from here on out I am running antifreeze in this this.
Solution: The Air Venturi Nomad II 4500 PSI Compressor! This thing is the perfect solution for Deer Camp type of situations to fill your guns directly. It is air cooled so no worry about freezing either!
You might be asking yourself, why don't you just fill your external tank and call it good? Well - for one, I LOVE to shoot. Deer camp isn't only a great time to chase Whitetails all over the Michigan woods, but a great time to hang out with family and friends and shoot. We shoot a TON during Deer Camp so we need an air source. Just having my external tank filled doesn't cover my air hogging needs. This solves this issue.
Furthermore, the Air Venturi NOMAD II can also run off of 12v so you can just hook it up to your truck's battery (WHIILE IT IS RUNNING) and charge your big bore airguns. I will be covering some mods in an upcoming video to make your truck the perfect mobile airgunner rolling armory. Stay tuned!
