I have never used a laser rangefinder. As with most people considering such a purchase, I have checked out the online reviews. I have not seen on any forums what it had occurred to me would be a good feature in a rangefinder. That is image stabilization. The particular model I would be interested in is the Nikon Monarch 7i vr. Since my longest shot with a pcp air rifle would be something short of 200 yards, I don't need a rangefinder that extends way beyond that distance. If the instrument is to be hand held, rather than mounted on a tripod, then it would seem to me that the image stabilization would be a great help in getting an accurate reading on a small object. For instance, trying to range the distance of yonder groundhog at what might be 100 or 125 yards distance, I need to know precisely the exact distance for holdover from my zero setting on the scope, or be able to dial in the proper setting.
I would appreciate the experience of all who have used rangefinders with good success. Does the concept of image stabilization sound like something useful to you? It is not that I question a less expensive rangefinder without image stabilization; I just want to invest in something that will be most likely to be accurate so my hunting might be as effective and humane as possible. Thank you for your time and effort in replying to this post.
