Compressor air to tank question.

I have an air venturi compressor. I just got a 98 cubic foot air venturi tank (4500 psi)

I have to fill this tank with an double male adapter from my compressor thru the fill hose of my tank. After making the connection, i turn on my compressor and then open the valve on my tank (Which is empty) and start filling. After 10 minutes i want to purge the compressor of moisture. This is the question part.... Should i now close the valve on the tank and then open the purge screw on the compressor and let out the moisture or just purge with the tank valve open? 

I did fill the tank last night from emty to 4500 psi in 1hr and 22 minutes purging every 10 minutes. I did close the valve on the tank every time to purge the compressor and then refilled the line pressure to the approximate pressure of the tank before opening the tank valve again. Is this the correct way? The tank came from Pyramid air but had NO paperwork or instructions at all inside.

Hey Critta, I have a Omega Super Charger with a self purging timer on it. Got it set for 15 minutes, but it fills a lot slower than the AV brand does. Anyway, every 15 minutes it blows out any accumulated water for 2 seconds without closing any valves of any kind on the tank. The timer tells the valve on the compressor when to open and when to close. So, in other words, you only need to open the purge valve on the compressor to get the job done. If I were you, and are as concerned as I am about keeping any water out of my guns, a Diablo filter can be linked to your output hose of the compressor. Between purging the moisture from the compressor and getting any residual moisture caught in the filter, you can be pretty sure that not much of anything except dry air is going into your tank. Hope this helps.

You do not need to close the valve on your tank or stop the compressor during the fill process. If you want to purge every ten minutes, just open the bleed valve on the compressor and close it when you've purged any build up. This can all be done while the compressor is running. You're not going to hurt anything or lose much air that has already built up. I do this with my AV, though not at the frequency you're doing it. I will typically do it once every 15-20 minutes during a fill, and most of the time, there's not any noticeable build up. I figure it may prolong the life of the filter and it definitely can't hurt anything.
